Groundwater is indeed a "hidden" resource that can play a crucial role, especially when more "visible" resources are unavailable due to drought, pollution or other disasters.

However, it is not a guaranteed source of clean, inexhaustible drinking water.

There are many questions about the safety and feasibility of such a project, but it's a good exercise to reconsider how we build.

Climate change is intensifying floods and droughts, making water management increasingly challenging. 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (𝗡𝗕𝗦) are becoming more popular as a way to mitigate these extremes.

𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 are widespread, particularly in health and politics. Unfortunately, the field of water management is not immune to this either.

The Saudi Arabian dairy company Fondomonte grows alfalfa in dry Arizona. The crops are then exported to Saudi Arabia as feed, effectively 'exporting' its groundwater exploitation with unlimited water extraction rights abroad.

A beautiful snow-covered park in Brussels. It is also great for groundwater replenishment, as the snow melts slowly, allowing more time for the water to infiltrate than during a heavy rainstorm, for example.

However, the effect of all the salt on the roads is a whole other issue.
