501(c)3 volunteer organization working in the Angeles National Forest under the supervision of the U.S. Forest Service, California's #1 hiking trail repair group! Hard, hot, difficult work but very rewarding.

An insane amount of difficult work done by the Forest Service
and done safely. To be young again and be able to do such work! I have talked with a LOT of fire crews in the Angeles National Forest and despite the difficulties, they say it's the best job in the world.
We had a crew of 8 working Saturday. We split the group with some working to repair the Sutter wall at 1.2 miles while the others continued clearing brush and fixing the tread. The Sutter wall is being held up by hardened oak which should last a while. We have now cleared brush and fixed the tread

The individual allegedly video recorded and took photographs and authorities allegedly have geolocation information which placed him 30 feet from the ignition point. 6837+ structures were destroyed, 1017 more were damaged, and 12 civilian fatalities. Separate from the Eaton Fire against the ANF

Fairy house with corral for bunnies along one of the hiking trails within the Crystal Lake Recreation Area. 🙂 Much love this. One of the younger San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders built this. Habitat for Fairies. 🙂 @trailbuilders.bsky.social

Yes, volunteers are put to work no matter how young or old, we need all the help we can keeping #hiking trails open at long as everyone goes home with no injuries, not even poison oak, though we often laugh when we shouldn't because poison oak isn't a joke, it's a reportable injury :)

When you bicycle up the mountain with toilet paper for the toilets on your back, you know you're a dedicated Forest Service employee or volunteer :)

The toppled oak, I filled in the root system with soil from the hillside to see if that might help the oak survive over the coming years. It toppled after a rain, we could see it was going to go over, and it's otherwise healthy. #hiking people comment about it some times

Mt. Waterman trail above the clouds. Cleared all trees from 3 Points Trailhead to Twin Peaks 5 miles. Finally completed 30” pine in the meadow, restored switchbacks at junction, cleared few other trees along the way. Crew also did some brush clearing on the overgrown section closer to the trailhead

Got the Big Dalton #hiking trail signs glued, camped, painted, and re-installed! They could be cleaner but the new painted lettering looks much better, should last a year or two before needing to be done again. A check of the trail signs in the area found that others in the Wilderness Park need work

🙂 Grace walked in to where I was taking a photo, then apologized for getting in the way. 🙂 I think she likes having her photo taken and <ahem> walked across. 🙂

And they have to take the chainsaws and everything else up and down the canyon, on their backs since they need their hands and feet for the trail.

Volunteers do some tremendous things.
#hiking up the Pavil Canyon Trail is probably more adventure than the average #hiker considers taking on, it's not just the dense poison oak (you can see how climbing up means you're in it with no choice but to) but the climb itself is at times boulder strenuous requiring care to get up and down

Have you considered asking the Little T Hot Shots Greg S. to come and evaluate this for you and consider dropping it safely?
This is what the root ball hazard looked like some 6 years ago, the soil and rock has worn away over the years until it's about a quarter of the size now

We're not permitted to use explosives in the riparian drainage yet there is no safe way to bring the kinetic energy to ground

That is some serious, hot, difficult, sweaty work you have been doing for the city's #hiking trails, I sure hope that the city appreciates the monkey you save them doing work for free.
Before and after on the volunteer #hiking project planned for this morning, widening this section past the rock up on Coulter Pine Trail, though the rock itself proved to be intransient to persuasion so it will be left for another day when we have a rock bar to teach it who's boss, by golly (I am)

San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders tackled a few fallen trees around the trails from Crystal Lake to Mt Islip. The trails are in great shape so now is the time to climb Mt Islip and enjoy gorgeous 360 degrees views. @fredhikes.bsky.social

Ah hell, the John Seals bridge across Laurel Gulch burned in the #BridgeFire. A tremendous amount of work was done by the San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders to build the bridge, helicopters, horses, Boy Scouts, and a lot of work. #hiking trail repairs in the Angeles National Forest

Camp Site 1 at Joe Elliot Campground. There were probably other sites in the past but I never visited prior to the fire to know the layout. It would be nice to clean up the camp as well. We have been doing deadfall removal and cleaning up for #hiking in the Angeles National Forest
