Maybe you’re too young to remember when “consent of the governed” was defined by more than being able to buy Gucci bags, Beatles records, and vote in bogus sham elections. The US was never perfect, but this country went completely off the rails in the 80s & 90s.

Well I’m tired of people saying that whichever authoritarian would “never” do x, y or z. Really tired of corporations like Walmart & PepsiCo so hot for access to a market that they can persuade pols to ignore all human rights considerations. And cranky that we might be on the verge of WWIII.
January 16, 2026 at 7:28 AM
The other part of the disasters we see unfolding is that in the 80s and 90s the fealty to humanitarian rights was entirely displaced by the notion that selling enough Levi’s and Pepsi in the post Soviet bloc and in China would suddenly make the people a part of an empowered democracy. That was BS.

RAND has put out countless papers. Regardless, I’ve watched Putin since he first rose to the upper echelons of power 25+ years ago. He was and still is a clear danger to the world and to Russians. A lot of people have failed to fully comprehend the threat he poses. You wouldn’t be alone.
January 16, 2026 at 5:36 AM
You’re wrong about that. But feel free to sound like one of the tens of millions of fools in the 1930s who thought that Hitler would never go as far as he did. Many of those fools died as a result of their willful ignorance about the danger despite all evidence to the contrary.

I quit a couple of jobs and turned down others because I was being asked to do nefarious things. Had I not had to sign NDAs, I might have reported a few.

I’m not saying that anyone trying to defend Greenland is in the wrong. I’m saying that if Trump draws European military resources to Greenland, Canada etc., those counties have fewer defenses. That’s Putin’s dream scenario. I see a strategy here that’s quite ugly for the world.
January 16, 2026 at 4:48 AM
I could not agree more. Thank you.
January 16, 2026 at 3:51 AM
Well they have killed a lot of good people and children in Ukraine, so my take is that regardless of Putin’s situation he will keep going. Just like DJT will if left unchecked. Sigh.
January 16, 2026 at 2:45 AM
Yeah. I’m worried about Trump drawing European military forces to Greenland that might be leaving European countries more vulnerable to Putin’s megalomaniacal expansionist plans.

Please stop asking. Tell the Republicans that they must NOT support these unlawful and unconstitutional assaults on American citizens and residents. I mean if it helps you understand in political terms, there are a lot of libertarians in the GOP bloc. They do not like these federal assaults.
January 16, 2026 at 2:05 AM
Because “deputized federal posses of pillage and tyranny” is too long for a headline.

Horrifying.

Translation: My extortion game went pretty well today and now I have some cool SWAG to show for it.

I’m betting that even if he had said that he can’t breathe in English, they would have killed him. It might be a mistake to put front and center that he was speaking Spanish. Most humane people know instinctively when another human is in medical distress. Honorable people would have backed off.

If I had a dollar for everything he and his cabal claimed was a joke, but turned out to be a tell, I’d be tens of thousands of dollars richer right now. I’ve always taken this guy seriously. I’m angry and resentful that the smarty pants elites didn’t. Now here we all are.
January 16, 2026 at 12:52 AM
DJT is a megalomaniac. A hoarder. A glutton. Sure he wants to avoid jail, but what really drives him is his desire to dominate and take. Of course he will drive the world into deadly turmoil and conflict. Because he gets more if he does that than if he decided to be a law abiding world citizen.
January 16, 2026 at 12:46 AM
I’d like to go back to the old Immigration and Naturalization SERVICE model. And I think breaking up DHS would be one of the first best steps towards righting this ship. This enforcement of tyranny model is a disaster and anti-democratic in every sense.
January 16, 2026 at 12:40 AM
Trump isn’t inventing “laws”.
Trump is meting out TYRANNY. Something his forefathers never fought against as mine did in the Colonial & Revolutionary War Eras. If we had immigration laws when his grandfather emigrated twice, his grandfather would have been deported permanently the 2nd time.

Vocabulary word for today.

I’m quite worried that the Greenland threats are designed to draw European allies there leaving their home countries more vulnerable to Putin expansionist plans on that continent. If Trump wants to go to Iran take his Hegseth bros & Bibi that might not be the worst thing.
January 15, 2026 at 9:03 AM
He always has been. Thanks for finally catching up. It’s not old age at work. He’s been a nasty piece of work since childhood much like most of his cabinet members and allies. He tried to kill a baby with a rock when he was a child. None of this is new for him.
January 15, 2026 at 3:15 AM
Oh and send Lindsey Graham in, too. Invading Iran is his wet dream.
January 15, 2026 at 12:39 AM
I hope he brings back the draft for his lily white Trump bro supporters if he opts to invade Iran. His son looks like he’s fit to serve. Send him into war. I’m so over these people.

Well then maybe you don’t know enough about the depth of corruption and skullduggery at FIFA.

I get the sarcasm, but I think that it is worth noting that a FIFA peace prize is about as valuable as the contents of a used cat litter box.
