Nature.com Examines Kate Beaton’s “Ducks” and the Intersection Between Enviral Degredation and Human Suffering
Nature.com gives an in-depth, academic and entirely overwritten analysis of the often overlooked connection between degredation of the environment and human suffering. Yes it does. Worth it once you get past the plethora of unneccessary and obfuscating sixteen-syllable words. No typos tho, so there's that. Ok I am being cheeky here but the article honestly is interesting in that it puts Ducks in a broader context of work you wouldn't normally think it would belong to.

Art Spiegelman to Receive Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award
The National Cartoonists' Society is set to award Art Spiegelman with the Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award. This is part of The Reuben Awards ceremony happening August 15 2025. From their website: In 1980, Spiegelman and his wife Françoise Mouly launched the groundbreaking magazine RAW, where his seminal work Maus first appeared in serialized form. Later published as a graphic novel, Maus became the first of its kind to win a Pulitzer Prize (1992) and remains a landmark in both comics and Holocaust literature. Its innovative visual language and courageous exploration of inherited trauma transformed how comics convey emotional and historical depth. Read more here.

Tegan O'Neil Reviews Michael Deforge's Holy Lacrimony for The Comics Journal. From the article: It’s resonant. I read it about a week ago and in the time needed to gather my thoughts those thoughts matured alongside the story ripening in my brain. For all his skill as an artist Michael DeForge is no slouch as a storyteller, either. As I’ve observed previously, DeForge’s secret weapon as a cartoonist is that he has a good ear for prose, which only sounds like an insult if you don’t actually read the words in those little balloons.

This was an absolutely great book! An amazing story, Guy Delisle dug deeply into the challenges, triumphs & horrific moments of Muybridge’s life, I learned a ton, was captivated for all of it. My dad got it first recommended - I hadn’t heard of it. Def recommend! From @dandq.bsky.social great stuff!
