Recently, a Japanese tit and a white-eye visited my garden 🐦🌿
I hope they’ll come back again 😊

It’s already 2026 here in Japan.
Wishing everyone a gentle New Year.

I joined a wild bird care shift the day before yesterday.
There’s a House Martin with a broken leg, and watching it eat from my hand is incredibly sweet.

In Japan, when we say “heron,” we usually mean the grey heron or the white egret. The “grey heron” isn’t called grey in Japanese — it’s “Aosagi,” which literally means “blue heron.”
And the little egret is “Kosagi,” meaning “small heron.”

In Japan, some bird photographers use telephoto lenses to capture birds in flight so sharply that they look almost frozen in the air.
But I don’t find those perfectly timed shots very interesting.
I enjoy photos that simply show birds just being themselves. 🕊️

They say the first kogarashi — the first strong, cold north wind that signals the coming of winter in Japan — has already blown in Tokyo. 🍃
It feels too soon! Autumn barely had a chance to settle in. 🍂

This summer felt endless — we had nearly three months of summer-like heat, and some places even recorded 40°C in September. ☀️
Then the weather turned cloudy for weeks, and suddenly it’s cold. 🍂

I love Yumemigasaki Zoo in Kawasaki, Japan — it’s small but peaceful, with red pandas and ring-tailed lemurs. 🐾💙
What’s your favorite zoo — and why?

There was a Zoo Festival at Yumemigasaki Zoo today!
I helped at the quiz rally booth — handed out sheets with three animal-related questions,
and checked the answers when people came back.
Everyone got a zoo postcard as a participation prize,
and so many people joined in! 🐾

I don’t find Twitter fun anymore.
Even here in Japan, xenophobic voices are joining hands,
growing louder together.
I’m tired of seeing that on my timeline.😭

Sasagoi-san!!(=ササゴイさん!)

Such a playful, very Japanese kind of expression, isn’t it?
— I couldn’t help smiling when I read it.

At Hida-Takayama — a grey heron standing on the rocks of a fast-flowing river. I wonder what it’s thinking. 🌿

A brown dipper searching for food in a fast-flowing river at Hida-Takayama, its feathers repelling the water efficiently. Its legs seem quite sturdy. 💦

I visited the grave.

In Japan, people visit their ancestors' graves during the seven days before and after the autumnal equinox, a period known as Ohigan.

Today is also the anniversary of my father's death.

Google Gemini made a pixel art version of a spot-billed duck from a photo.
It’s quite well done, and I like it.

I want to take a walk in the park when autumn comes.

I wish autumn would come soon.

I stayed at home since the forecast said the temperature would be about the same as body temperature.

It’s just so hot.

A lot of xenophobes were elected in the recent election in Japan, and the media is focusing on crimes committed by foreigners, which makes me feel really sick.

X has a lot of hate speech and I can't stand watching it.

It makes me feel psychologically unwell.
