We once did a parent education night. We had 3 sessions of classes taught by teachers on Homework, how to help with projects, internet safety, extracurricular activities, and other things parents should know about education. Exhausting, but effective. #EdChat #EduSky

Do not use personal email addresses for parent communications. The school should provide every teacher with a free email account. #EdChat #EduSky

If a parent sees a failing grade on a report card without any previous notifications, that is the teacher's fault. No excuses! #Edchat #Edus

Parents on your side are far better than parents who look to blame you for their child's failures. Communication is the best defense. #EdChat #EduSky

The MOST important thing to communicate to parents is any problem affecting a grade before the report card. Give them a fighting chance to affect change #EdChat #EduSky

Notifying parents regularly about problems or missed assignments makes later parent meetings an easier go. They can't be surprised if they were informed. #EdChat #EduSky

To involve parents, I ask,

Do you have anything to offer our classroom that will help us explore our community? Do you have a cultural celebration, occupation, or talent that would contribute to our class discussions this year?

It's a great way to include their expertise. #EdChat #EduSky

My most successful experience in involving parents was when I created a class website. Hmwk, tests, special events were all posted. Parents loved it. #EdChat #EduSky

I never liked back-to-school night because there was never enough time to discuss what was planned for the year. #EdChat #EduSky

#EdChat Topic: Parent engagement can be very helpful in education. What are the ways beyond “Back To School Night” that schools may inform and involve parents? #EduSky

I wonder how many principals allow for discussion of education strategies in those required Faculty meetings? Would Rigor be an appropriate topic? #EdChat #EduSky

So that we are all on the same page, Cognitive overload a state where the brain is overwhelmed with too much information or stimuli, leading to difficulty processing, understanding, and remembering information. Not what we want. #EdChat #EduSky

It's especially problematic in my content World Languages because language acquisition doesn't happen in that way at that pace. And it's still too textbook influenced even if no textbook is used. #EdChat #edusky

Since direct instruction and lectures make up a significant part of our educational strategy, how do we transition to a more project-based curriculum? #EdChat #EduSky

Is Direct instruction compatible with Rigor, or would project-based learning be a better strategy? #EdChat #EduSky
