I am a composer, sound artist, classical musician, and GRAMMY© nominated performer.

Also expect opinions on music, philosophy, and life in general. And Medieval music, art, and literature.

And dogs. Lots of dogs. Particularly the small floofy variety.
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

When I was five years old, my dad took me to a record store and told me I could have any record I wanted. One album caught my eye.

The cover showed a pretty sunset with dramatic orange and purple clouds. Best of all, it had a big number 5 on it.

I've been a bit absent from social media for the past couple of months, (mostly work and a bit of health stuff). Do know that I read your posts, and truly appreciate hearing about what's going on in your world.

Be well!

In 1925, a 29-year old Maureen Dallas Watkins enrolled in the Yale School of Drama. While at Yale, she wrote a scathingly funny play about her experiences as a courtroom reporter for the Chicago Tribune.

The 1927 movie version of “Chicago” that I will be performing on August 30th so perfectly encapsulates the 1920s that it’s hard to know where to begin.

OK Music Geeks, I need your help. I'm looking to replace my 20 year old Mackie SRM450s with something that's crisp and clear with deep bass that won't kill my 60 some odd year old back when I lift them into the car.

What do you suggest?

Are you ready for another silent film? I'll be performing my score to the 1927 "Chicago," (yes, THAT Chicago) at Parson's Nose Theater in Pasadena, CA on August 30, 2025!
Details to come!

Here's something I repost periodically that's on-point for anybody who has dedicated their life to creativity.

TEX AVERY'S 6 RULES FOR COMEDY

1. You must love what you caricature. You must not mock it—unless it is ridiculously self-important, like the solemn live-action travelogues of that day.

Signs that you married the right person:

HER: How would you describe your music? Haunting? Evocative?

ME: Enjoys long walks along the beach? Likes Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain?

HER: A team player with the ability to multitask in a fast paced, high pressure environment?

What is your experience with single board computers (SBC) in art installations? Can they be trusted to continue their programs over the long haul? How difficult are they to work with?

I have a question for any installation artists who use computers in their work.

How do you keep the machine from crashing mid-exhibition? I'm using a dedicated PC laptop running a simple Max/MSP patch that seems to poop out after about a week.

Any thoughts?

All of us in the Los Angeles area are reeling right now as we deal with personal and collective grief and a deep fear of what is to come. I have a plea for those of you who live outside of our area who may have opinions about what happened.

For the next 30 days, just…don’t.

One thing that I love about the holiday season is hearing all of the wonderful music. Great holiday music comes from many centuries of tradition, and new classics are being written all the time.

So why is it that "Dominic the Donkey" is playing in my head on a continuous loop?
December 23, 2024 at 6:43 PM
Well it seems our video holiday card from 2012 is making the rounds again (and yes, I'm very happy about that)! So here is my music with the wonderfully loopy Insects' Christmas (1913) by stop motion pioneer Ladislas Starevich. Enjoy!

Linda and I have a sound art installation at the Opulent Mobility exhibition at the Los Angeles Makery in Little Tokyo from now until 12/29/24.

Our piece, CLOCK, is a working timepiece that features Linda's micro fiction, delivered one line at a time at 5-minute intervals.
