Only 5 house builders* built more than 5,000 homes in 2024.

Between them those 5 built c. 64,000 homes, around a third of the total additional homes.

A further 13 developers built between 1,000 and 5,000 homes (totalling c. 32,000).

Good to see some positive movements in quarterly homelessness stats - assessments down and positive prevention/relief compared to previous quarter, but numbers in temporary accommodation still climbing and overall homelessness picture worse than year ago. www.gov.uk/government/s...

Doing some analysis of CORE data (which does have some challenges in terms of quality and response), and interested to hear thoughts on the median re-let time for homes.

What is driving re-let times in your organisations? What are you doing to manage this? Anything successful that you're proud of?

New MHCLG stats show child #Homelessness & #RoughSleeping continue to soar:

164k kids in temp accommodation (up 16%)
4,667 people rough sleeping (up 20%)

This is no way to live or for a child to grow up - a result of years of cuts & policy failure

One bit of good news in general gloom about homelessness: the number of families with children living in bed and breakfasts beyond the six-week legal limit fell 8% in latest quarter (the first 'Labour' one). Still 3,470 of them though, 21 times higher than in 2010

Quite a concerning rise in the length of time it takes landlords to relet homes - even for those that don't need major repairs. Anecdotally, I hear that landlords are finding it harder to find contractors (including for minor repairs). Are there other reasons for this?

More people slept rough on the streets of London in the run up to Christmas 2024 than did in the run up to Christmas 2023. We're going in the wrong direction and we need a national plan if the situation is to improve

NEW: Last year we reported 55 homeless children had died while living in temporary accommodation in 4 yrs.

We reported that TA deaths were likely much higher because data collection was not routine.

Now, new research shows between Oct 23-Sept 24, 80 children died in TA. www.itv.com/news/2024-03...

We shouldn't be aiming to "free up hospital beds" or "reduce spending on temporary accommodation".

We should be aiming to support everyone to have a safe, affordable home which they can maintain and enjoy.
