Driving back from Glasgow to East Anglia. Stopped off at the Bay Horse, Hurworth-on-Tees.

Return visit, as we celebrated #1 child’s graduation here last summer.

More “assembled” food. On a work trip and staying in an hotel, but found an M&S food hall on the way back from the office.

Starter of goat’s cheese, balsamic vinegar beetroot, roasted nuts and salad leaves with Len de L’el.

Roast chicken and caponata do melanzane for mains.

A mature luncheon claret from a universally poor year.

Unless you really need to know what 2013 Bordeaux tastes like, just buy a different vintage. Like any vintage: 2015 and 2020 are great, but, really, just avoid 2013.

@eightthegreen.bsky.social thanks for the follow. I see a visit to your place in my near future.

Had a lovely weekend in Winster last year and decided we must come back to walk the remainder of the High Peak Trail that we didn't cover.

Here's my guide to the area:

A luscious dessert wine made from botrytised grapes.

Australia's De Bortoli via Morrisons - match it with roasted peaches, brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. With some Chantilly cream.

Went to a Musar tasting.

Lebanese wine: mix of Bordeaux and Mediterranean grapes from the Beka’a Valley.

Vertical with 15-odd wines from mid ‘80s to recent vintages.

I remain convinced that Musar tastes old when it’s young and you when it’s old. The 80s vintages were some of the best.

At a work do, a colleague was asking everyone in a getting-to-know way if we like to cook.

Come my turn, I went with: yeah, I like to assemble stuff and have it with sherry.

Her response: well, that’s not really cooking, is it?

Anyways:
