He should have been ruled out of bidding as "not a fit and proper person". The chancer refused the offer and is now seeking £200m (all money deducted from good causes)

No one who reads Tortoise or knew its people would see it as ever likely to be compromised. Observer protests are founded on fear of change/cosy preference to stay in a large news organisation. For most it is about job security, conserving the status quo. They « prefer things to stay as they are ».
I’ve been reluctant to engage with this, but I will only briefly to reshare what @ceri-t.bsky.social said on X. No slight may be “intended” by the thread below but as a journalist who has been at Tortoise for six and a half years it is felt.
