Community expertise is essential for monitoring potential information harms, but current “social listening” efforts often bring community input late in the process. It’s time to update our tracking approaches to foreground that shift. @cward1e.bsky.social and I offer one approach in a new paper.

Israel to Ban International Aid Groups From Gaza

Israel’s decision to bar a number of international humanitarian organizations—among them Doctors Without Borders (MSF)—from operating in Gaza is anticipated to severely impact civilians already enduring a protracted humanitarian crisis.

All of the money that changed hands in the Teapot Dome scandal totaled less than $10 million after adjusting for inflation, and it was considered so corrupt we still teach it in high school government classes a century later.
Corruption so pungent, it wafts right off the page:

Lobbyists who do pardon deals “say their going rate is $1 million. Pardon-seekers have offered some lobbyists close to the president success fees of as much as $6 million if they can close the deal.”

A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

Many Covid contrarians complained not just about outcome, but process. But now in power, their processes are less transparent and more top-down than those they critiqued, all to achieve their preferred outcome. Science = process, disrupting that is anti-science, even if you worship RCTs.
