Brown birch bolete in grass & pine needles by house. White crooked stem with dark-edged layers giving rough look, sponge-like white spore surface under cap, brown cap. White puffballs. They look like inflated, fuzzy or studded breasts with grey nipples at the center. Large fallen log in woods with brown/buff puffballs, green mosses, and other creatures growing on it. A mushroom that is very rotty. The cap was probably yellow/brown before at least 2 molds (yellow, white, brown, grey hairs abound) started eating it. It was irridescent in the sunlight among the dead leaves

Found these hydnum on the edge of forest off the main trail. We've been seeding these guys around our property and it seems to be paying off :)
A paper napkin covered in wild mushrooms - depressed hedgehogs (hydnum umbilicatum) Close up of 2 hydnum umbilicatum - the top and toothy underside. It has a light reddish/rust brown cap with cream colored flesh. These were on the edge of a tail in the woods, up to 3" diameter. Depressed hedgehog mushrooms. Cut up into a grey ceramic bowl. Fried mushrooms on white plate. Blurry because I want to eat them and don't have time to focus

Summertime friends
Parson spider is upset I chose to shower in its room. Black spider with light colored back stripe crouches in a the molding of a wall. It is wet. The wall looks somewhat like the nose of the Old Man of the Mountain in NH (before it collapsed a decade ago) Paper wasps hatched out of what looked like an abandoned nest. 2 paper wasps - 1 on top of wasp nest is easy to see, the 1 on the side is camouflaged. Nest is on a wooden table with a bunch of other stuff scattered around. Deer mouse found its way into my bathroom and needed to be driven a mile down the mountain to avoid repeats. Grey/brown-colored deer mouse crouching in green leaves. It looks a bit disturbed from its ordeal, but unharmed. Flying squirrel appreciates the bird nuts left over from the day. Blurry southern flying squirrel looks at the camera from an outdoor table. It would like more peanuts and fewer comments from me

The outdoors smells and tastes like burning. I've never seen so much smoke in the air in MA. This amount of smoke/smog is apparently considered only slightly dangerous. The unquantifiable worst is yet to come!
Balcony with plants looking out over tree tops. There's a white, thick haze obscuring the trees and everything over ~20ft away - that's thick smoke primarily from wildfires in Canada. We are in southern Massachusetts.

My favorite moth faces are back
Hickory tussock moth, belly side. It's white with a brown/white round pattern on the wings. Small brown dots line the abdomen. It is fuzzy and thick with big eyes. Fuzzy moth face with big eyes peeking out from the layers of fuzz. Its antennae are also thick and fuzzy in a crescent shape. Straw besma moth (I think), from the side. It's white with two tan colored lines across is upturned wings. It has fuzzy antenna and is licking the plastic of the door it's sitting on. Nais tiger moth from the front, head-on. It has small black eyes and striking yellow-lined black wings folded down. It's antenna are not fuzzy and it looks like it has a yellow nose.

An orange Eastern Newt with black speckles trying to cross a road of black millings. He was not thrilled I saw him, but there wasn't anywhere to hide his head though he tried Jack/Jill-in-the-Pulpit plant. It looks like a green-striped, covered pitcher with a green spadix apendix visible under the covering leaf. The underside of the leaf is a mottled maroon with thin green stripes/lines. The stem is also a mottled maroon/green pattern. Two other leaf branches extend to either side. We've badly contaminated our food supply. TFA is a breakdown product of PFAS that causes severe malformation in animal fetuses. You're still at risk of you're not a fetus - toxic is toxic.

4 for 4 flights this week have had minor electrical issues with the plane: 1 - entertainment system black out, 2 - auxiliary power inoperable, 3 - exit sign needs troubleshooting pre-flight, 4 - computerized baggage counter and other systems not online forcing manual count & delays 🛩 #unitedairlines

Bluebirds came back today! 🪶

I'd never seen them up close before, but there were 9 on the porch last week! We're hoping to get some nest boxes in the spring so they stick around for bug control
