The curse of the final girl lingers over your head: the night can only grow darker from here. Prerequisite (3rd Echelon): You win an encounter while all of your allies are dead or dying, but you’re not. Effect: Choose one of the following benefits: Darkest Before the Dawn: While you are dying, you gain 1 additional Heroic Resource at the start of each of your turns during combat. Solstice Rituals: Whenever you achieve a tier 2 outcome with a Magic or Psionic ability, it deals additional rolled damage equal to your highest characteristic score, and any potencies are increased by 1. Until the Last Leaf Falls: Whenever you become dying, if there are one or more allies within 10 squares of you who aren’t dead, you can use a free triggered action to spend a Recovery. Dream Domain Piety and Effect Piety: You gain 2 piety the first time in an encounter that an ally within 10 squares uses a heroic ability. Prayer Effect: One ally within 10 squares of you gains 1 of their Heroic Resource. 1st-Level Domain Feature Dreamwalker When you sleep, your spirit wanders, allowing you to visit other creatures’ dreams and receive portents about the future. During any respite, you can choose a creature you know to receive a short message or omen in their dreams the next time they sleep. Keywords: Psionic Goal: 180 Reason or Presence Source: Texts or lore in Axiomatic Item Prerequisite: A chunk of prismacore charged with psionic energy and authorized by a UNISOL quartermaster Effect: You can deploy the viewfinder on its tripod as a maneuver. While deployed, the psionic crystal inside records the neural patterns and nerve signals of nearby creatures. Whenever an enemy ends their turn within 10 squares of the viewfinder, you can use a free triggered action to target them with the crystal. Choose one main action, maneuver, or move action that creature used on their turn. They must repeat that action on their next turn if at all possible, including spending the same amount of Malice and choosing the same targets. If they can’t do so, they become dazed (EoT) instead. Additionally, you can’t be surprised, and you can fly. Draw Steel Promptober ‘25 Day #24: Colossal Beast Scale the Colossus Montage Challenge A beast of titanic size is on its way to town. The only way to stop it is to get to its head and succeed at an extremely difficult 6-round Complete the Action encounter, but climbing the creature’s limbs is harder than scaling a mountain — and a whole ecosystem for the heroes to contend with has developed on its back. Inspired by @fluttersprite’s rules for Montage Challenges. Rather than accumulating successes, the players must choose which Threats they want to negate and which Opportunities they want to claim before the two rounds are over. Players tackle Threats and Opportunities in any order, the same way they tackle challenges in a normal Montage Test. Tasks with multiple icons can be tackled multiple times, negating/claiming one instance of the Threat/Opportunity each time. Locked tasks (🔒) can’t be attempted at all until the named task is completed at least once first. THREATS Fend Off Parasites [2]: Each hero loses two Recoveries. Many beasts of the wild have taken to living off the colossus’s hide, and they don’t take kindly to intruders. Repair Arcane Seals [3]: Reduce the number of rounds required to Complete the Action by 1. The colossus has been kept dormant for centuries thanks to the work of ancient heroes who placed arcane seals all around its body. Now, those seals have weakened, and repairing them is the only way to slow the beast. OPPORTUNITIES Explore the Beastscape [Hard]: Find a trinket. You’re not the first adventurers to scale the colossus, and you may not be the last... Gather Rare Reagents: Find an item prerequisite for crafting a leveled treasure. 🔒 Fend Off Parasites The beastscape is brimming with arcane power. All kinds of strange ingredients can be found up here. Scale the Beast [2]: Grant an edge on the next test. Finding a fast, efficient way to the top is paramount to stopping the colossus. Draw Steel Promptober ‘25 Day #23: Aliens Strange Lights Complication The night lit up with impossible colors, the wake of higher manifolds bleeding into the sky. Blinded by the lights, you were abducted, and later returned to your home, missing all your memories of the intervening time — and not just that, but something else, whether that was a personal feeling, a treasured possession, or even a loved one. Now, you’re on a mission to figure out what exactly you saw that night, and retrieve what you lost. Benefit: Whatever happened to you left you with an uncanny sense for that which doesn’t belong. You gain the human signature trait Detect the Supernatural, and whenever you use that maneuver in a combat encounter, you gain one surge. If you already have that trait, you can forgo gaining the surge to use it as a free maneuver once per turn. Drawback: The strange lights haunt your nights, leading to fitful rest and unexplainable blackouts in your struggle to find your missing piece. Whenever you take a respite while you have 1 or more Victories, roll a d10. If you roll a 1, you wander off in search of what you lost, returning at the end of the respite without gaining any benefits from it except converting your Victories to Experience. Draw Steel Promptober ‘25 Day #22: Summoning Circles Ritual Chamber Terrain Terrain is a new kind of combat feature, similar to villain actions and dynamic terrain objects, which can be paired with any kind of monster band. Terrain actions happen at the start of each round of combat, before any creature’s turn. While they are sequenced to provide a sense of dramatic escalation, like villain actions, the Director can use them out-of-order if desired. Terrain actions have no maximum distance and can be used against any creature on the encounter map. Some terrain actions are foreshadowed. The distance, targeting parameters, and any special modifiers of foreshadowed actions are known to all creatures in the encounter, and any areas of effect are placed on the encounter map immediately. However, targets for the ability aren’t chosen until the ability is resolved, which happens at the end of the round unless otherwise specified. This gives each creature in the encounter map time to maneuver themselves and their allies out of the area, or enemies into the area. Terrain may also have additional features or abilities that work normally, such as traits that affect the entire encounter map or triggered actions which can be used once per round. Keywords: Magic, Medium Weapon Goal: 450 ARP Source: Texts or lore in Kheltivari Item Prerequisite: Petrified wood from a wode, taken from a tree that was planted in the future 1st Level | What Wasn’t: Whenever you use the weapon with a signature or heroic ability that deals rolled damage, you gain one surge that you can use immediately for each prior time you’ve used that ability in the encounter. Additionally, you gain an edge = on tests made to accomplish something you’ve done before. 5th Level | What Isn’t: If you’re not surprised at the start of your first turn in combat, you gain 1 Heroic Resource. If you are surprised, you stop being surprised. Additionally, you gain an edge = on tests made to assist an ally’s test. 9th level | What Won't Be: At the end of each of your turns during combat, you may choose a heroic ability you know. If you use that ability on your next turn, its Heroic Resource cost is reduced by 1 (to a minimum of 1), and if it makes use of a power roll, you gain an edge on that roll. If you don’t use that ability on your next turn, at the end of that turn, you may spend a Recovery and end one effect on yourself that’s ended by a saving throw. Draw Steel Promptober ‘25 Day #19: Wizard’s Tower Portable Arcanaeum Consumable Although this miniature model fits in your hand, it’s heavy enough to break your foot. So don’t drop it. Keywords: Magic Reason, Intuition, Presence Source: Texts or lore in the First Language Goal: 180 Item Prerequisite: A scale model of an existing mage’s tower, complete with interiors and your own personalizations Effect: If you place the model on the ground and spend 1 minute reciting the arcane assembly instructions from the project source, it expands into a 5×5 area and grows to be 10 squares tall. If there isn’t enough space for the model to expand, it doesn’t, but remains useable. The resulting tower is fully furnished and decorated according to the design of the model. It contains enough space and supplies for up to 10 creatures to take a respite, but it doesn’t contain any of the tools or equipment needed for those creatures to undertake normal respite activities. The Director can allow a particular respite activity at their discretion. You are aware of the presence and location of all enemies within 20 squares of the tower. If an enemy comes within 20 squares of the tower, all creatures who are nonmagically asleep within it wake up. The tower otherwise has no defenses.
