Fun fact: phytochemicals aren’t essential nutrients, but they still help reduce disease risk. For example, flavonoids in berries and apples fight inflammation and support heart health which is proof that food does more than just provide calories. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I relate to this a lot. The lecture made it clear that questioning studies isn’t disrespectful or “wrong” where it’s necessary. Nutrition research can be complex and flawed, so asking whether the conclusions actually add up is how we avoid being misled by confident-sounding claims.
One thing that really stood out to me was that it is okay and normal to question science. I often feel as though the researchers are smarter than me so I sometimes forget that it is good to truly question if they make sense and if what I am reading adds up.

I’ll always check whether a nutrition headline confuses correlation with causation. Strong claims from small or observational studies are a clear red flag.

I’m a PharmD student. I’m taking this course to better understand how nutrition directly impacts disease prevention and medication outcomes. I’m most curious about how diet truly influences metabolic health. Healthy eating = consistency. Favorite food: Mediterranean dishes ;) @beh353.bsky.social
