Just finished The Future of the 'Classical' by Salvatore Settis; just started Treatises on Dust by @timothyjjarvis.bsky.social (pub. @swanriverpress.bsky.social}. Under the Parthenon one minute, under a certain old street lamp the next.

#pbarb2024books Treatises on Dust by @timothyjjarvis.bsky.social. Discovered this via a @swanriverpress.bsky.social post & so glad I did. Last time I read a new-to-me author collection like this was Attila Veres’s The Black Maybe. Shades of Machen, Aickman, James, yet wholly new & truly unsettling.

I did an event in London with Tim Jarvis for Universal Harvester, and he edited a volume for which I wrote a short-short story. His is one of the keenest, most provocative minds I’ve known and the publication of this volume is cause for celebration!
TREATISES ON DUST are not ghost stories in the traditional sense. They are haunted, not by ghosts, but by an obscure volume of French decadent poetry, a seventeenth-century murder ballad, a bone antenna, and by places where “the membrane is thin”.
