"Brexiteers boasted that leaving the EU would be worth hundreds of billions a year. Cambridge Econometrics estimates that over the next decade Britain's economy will be £300bn smaller than if we had not left the EU. This is self-harm on a heroic scale."

We all know Brexit’s to blame for the crisis facing UK steel – it’s time for politicians to be honest and reverse it | Simon Jenkins
With British industry faltering, the excuse that the public wants this is risible. Parliament must force Starmer to act, says Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins

In case you were thinking of seeing The Brutalist, find another way of spending the few hours left to you on Earth. It’s well cast, but too long, and a key event in the 2nd half is unconvincingly acted & not credible in terms of character development. And the title’s not quite right.

Who do so many Brits find continental #Europe so culturally alien compared to the US, considering that Americans are also foreigners, even if most Americans happen to speak a form of English? #rejoin

Very good article on #Europe, and need for the UK to #rejoin.
"Donald Trump’s Election Means Reversing Brexit Is Now More Urgent Than Ever"

If Trump forces the UK to chose between himself and Europe - we must chose Europe. That goes for economy and trade, consumer standards, values, international law, culture - the lot.

Some kind of rapprochement with the #EU is essential to our recovery. The government needs to establish a more positive narrative for our relationship with #Europe. #Trump is indifferent to the UK.

The mayor of Calais was right to point out that migrants are able to work in UK without documentation. We will not address the migration wave without introducing some kind of ID system. #immigration #Europe I have a Singapore ID card - the system works really well.

#Starmer may be right to suggest that our European neighbours do not see rebuilding the UK’s relationship as a top priority. But if we to grow, we need to participate fully again in the political life of the #EU, and of #Europe in general. Why the red lines, Keir? #rejoin
