i'm not sure if this is exactly why they've been doing it but I appreciate the genshin team's more creative use of 2D-looking expressions on the characters' faces in nod-krai, like with jahoda and then varka in the latest quest. it reminds me of kpop demon hunters.

seems a bit strange that the heavenly principles shattered only two of the moons. why not all of them? was the frostmoon still needed for something, but the heavenly principles didn't want it to be seen? #genshinlore

so, upon completion....if I understood the mural story correctly, it does sound like this sort of right? the heavenly principles at first allowed the moon sisters to exist after seizing the throne of heaven, and after it saw the danger they posed, they were excluded. hence, rejection.
