A really good example of this is the sanitization of VTubing and how many VTubers do not want to associate with lewdtubers unless that lewdtuber is shockingly popular (Melody, Cottontail, etc).
It's extremely depressing that anime went from a more obscure medium to front and center mainstream during my lifetime, but this translated to the medium transitioning from "for fans by fans" to pure exploitative capitalism with us as the captive audience
