The Hollow Knight Wiki plans to reverse the use of other localizations to gender characters unstated in English.

Doesn't make the original, indirect use of supposed leaked unverifiable documents any less baffling, but at least things are on the right track.
Wiki Mod: Just as a heads-up, we're making a bigger change overall starting tomorrow. Part of that will be to return to using the English language as our basis for genders/lack thereof as well as for pronoun usage on wiki articles. Don't do harassment. But if you're curious, here's the reason why Phantom, Lugoli, Last Judge, ect have suddenly been gendered on the Silksong wiki, when previously they were unstated.

A supposed anonymous rouge translator has decided to leak confidential information that supposedly confirms the genders of unstated characters to your fan wiki. You can't disclose or directly cite this info because of NDA. What do you do? Other Wiki Mental Gymnastics Even if we could trust this translator or know their motives, (which we can't,) using information we can't cite, that's only "verifiable" to us, even indirectly, is unethical and we shouldn't do it. Apparently the Silksong wiki is using localizations from heavily gendered languages to justify labeling characters like Phantom as "female" and not "unknown" or "enby" because "we have a super secret localization guide we're not sharing or citing."

If we allow translations as sources for a character’s gender, we should be adding “possibly male” to the list, no? Translations are wildly inconsistent for character genders because many languages don’t have neutral pronouns and it’s probably safer to stick to the text written in English, right? I like to imagine that before Asriel told his parents of Chara's name, Asgore suggested Togore as a name.

As in after Asriel brings Chara home, his parents are like discussing what to do and Asgore just says, "We should name the child. How about Togore?"
