Hi! I'm Tara, a scientist studying nature + human health. As cities expand and green spaces shrink, I’m interested in how forests reduce stress and depression, improve mental fatigue, and reduce air pollution and noise. I share evidence-based science to promote health and protect natural spaces. 🌲💚
I love Vancouver Parks. I visit them daily and have spent five years researching how they support resident health.

I will not tolerate council or COS celebrating a revenue increase in their 2026 budget while omitting that it doesn’t cover fixed costs, new capital, or increased user fees.

“Well that was an awesome waste of time. Another day in paradise.”

This is reportedly what Mayor Ken Sim said after hundreds of Vancouverites passionately shared why the city budget cuts will harm them and their community.

Read what Vancouver has to say - it’s not a waste of time. ⬇️
Ok folks we are back at it again from 1-5. Yesterday was a lot. Heard from so many passionate Vancouverites.

Unfortunately I heard the mayor say it was a waste of time. But I assure you, I’m listening.
Budget hearing continued after short recess. 157: environmental lawyer (?)Reads poem. 158: raised in east van. This is austerity and hasn’t been asked for. I’ve been lucky enough to use public services. Breaks my heart to think they won’t get same quality. Few people asked for this police budget.

This was me participating in democracy by calling in to Vancouver city council to oppose the 2036 budget cuts to parks. 🌲💚
256: environmental scientists. Aren’t adequately funding parks. With so much density stressors increase. List 15% of greenspsce over last decade. Parks improve health. Professionals prescribe greenspsce to patients. Sports picnics are healthy snd fun but this budget ignores

For 15 months, we've been hosting a monthly "sit spot" in Vancouver parks. Join us for the final session of the year on Dec. 13th at 10 am for 30 mins of relaxation, then tea, reflections, and I'll drop some health science. Feel calm and refreshed before holiday craziness. Join: sitspot.club

During July’s Sit Spot i noticed the dappled light. Birds playing among the tree branches. Falling leaves floating slowly as gravity pulled them to the forest floor. Tree tops gently swaying. The feel of air between my fingers. Shifting light as clouds filtered the sun’s rays. 🌲💚

June Sit Spot was met with a chorus of birds and ended with Douglas fir and Rosehip tea.

I’ll be hosting the next one on Sat., July 12th in Pacific Spirit Park. It’s free, it’s relaxing and it’s a nice way to connect with others that need a break. 🌲💚

I was nervous about chaperoning 130 high school kids at camp. They were awesome. The camp was awesome. Steve the Seal was awesome.

Fun fact: when forest bathing was first proposed in the early 80s, it aimed to help city kids connect with nature and escape the urban desert. 🌲💚

I’m looking forward to celebrating the Summer Solstice by guiding at VanDusen Gardens. This session is oversold, but the next one in July still has a few spots available. vandusengarden.org/explore/cour... #Vancouver #nature #forestbathing

“Brown partnered with Metro Vancouver Regional Parks and in 2024 launched a pilot project: Silent Trails. Set within the park system of the City of Vancouver and the surrounding area, two acoustically protected trails create a space where people can go to listen to nature.“
All living things benefit from experiencing less human-caused noise. That’s why Quiet Parks International is speaking loudly for quiet places.

Strategies to talk about vaccines with your community (not internet randos 😉) via @nature.com:

- Don't dismiss concerns.
- Share reliable info that addresses specific worries.
- Most hesitant individuals aren't anti-vaxxers; sharing personal vax experiences can help.

To celebrate #GlobalBigDay, we will sit quietly in nature to listen to birds. Last year, I identified over 20 birds with eBird in the same spot, so I’m excited to see which birds greet us this time.

Time to lift some weights.

The nests were most likely to be found in stems collected during the spring.

The only time it is safe to cut a stem back to ensure you are not endangering bee nests is during the winter.
