This is a wonderful piece about lots of things (including playing music) by @traceythorn.bsky.social
"Music can be imperfect & still be wonderful; a performance can be meaningful & important while still being full of inevitable human flaws. In the end, quite a lot of things did go wrong & none of it mattered". I wrote about our recent gigs, my first in 25 years❤️ www.newstatesman.com/culture/musi...
I loved performing again, but it reminded me to keep one foot in normal life
Our gigs went better than I could have hoped; even the things that went wrong added to the magic.

Richard Williams is always worth reading: in the latest BlueMoment he writes about the new Waterboys album. The song “I Don’t Know How I Made It” (open.spotify.com/track/0SxI9X...) sounds like “The Blue Nile covering Blonde on Blonde”. (Or… this… open.spotify.com/track/0SxI9X...)

A few things I'm learning about reviewing, esp a column with multiple books:

Reviews need narrative – not just a barrage of evaluation;

Avoid multiple character names – a short column with writer/translator names already quite full;

Adjective fatigue;

Should read like an opinion not a verdict.

RIP Garth Hudson. The greatest organist in rock history? Hell yeah, the greatest organist in rock history.

Hard to believe that there are no longer any living members of The Band. Gonna go stare into space for a while.
Honestly the Garth Hudson entrance here is probably the single greatest moment in any rock concert film. Especially because it’s reserved for Garth Hudson, supremely unassuming genius.

Good interview with John T Davies (by Peter Murphy) in Winter Papers 10. There’s a lovely Dylanish aspect to him recognizing Pennebaker because he knew the Dylan films (thus while they were making the first of those!)…

Yesterday, the Baron of Siberia posted my investigation into Tortoise on Twitter. I responded saying the Guardian is cancelling my contract after 19 years, so I'd be happy to go to the Indie to carry on investigating Evgeny's dad, the ex-KGB spy. This was a joke!

However, here are some facts..
