For anyone keen on reading a bit more about Portuguese elections, now that the government fell, I also wrote a short piece on the previous one, which took place one year ago almost to the day. It was published in the Green European Journal.

A Portuguese Middle-Age Crisis?
Fifty years after the democratic transition, Portugal is facing a deep political crisis of which the growth of the extreme right is the most dangerous symptom.

The Portuguese government fell today, after losing a confidence vote in Parliament. We'll have new elections in May.

Also today, my piece on the PT elections for the EU Parliament ('Second Order or Second Round?') was published in Politique Européenne. It can be read here: tinyurl.com/hnh6m5n2

"First, have you eliminated all DEI from your school and its curriculum? Second, if DEI is found in your courses or teaching in any way, will you move swiftly to remove it?"

What does this even mean?

In the piece we discuss how the EU response to the pandemic crisis constituted a major reconfiguration of economic governance, as well as a shift in how we think about "responsible" government in the EU.

It's a special issue with great colleagues, so make sure to explore it all!
8️⃣ Amandine Crespy, tiagomramalho.bsky.social and Vivien Schmidt trace how the Eurozone crisis instilled ‘responsive responsibility’ in EU governance, influencing its pandemic response 👇

More than a 'ha-ha' moment, this truly should invite debt hawks to think about the profoundly misguided austerity mania of the past 15 years in Europe.

Created this starter pack about a week ago with 27 profiles. Now it only has 27 spots left.

It's a great list of people doing a bit of everything in European Politics (party competition, political economy, integration, public policy).

I'll keep adding people until it's full :)

I like how Bluesky's feed invites people to seek interactions and mutuality rather than merely an audience. The starter packs seem to be part of that. To be honest, even academic twitter was getting very spectacular.

The trouble with the "anti-system" language is that it propagates the idea that MAGA & Co want to "dismantle" the state (an appealing idea for those not feeling they're getting a lot from it). Gamble, Pierson et al. showed that was not the case in the Thatcher-Reagan period. It's not the case today.

The NYT published this a couple of weeks ago, but it's a good illustration of how "anti-system" projects are "system takeover" projects. The Musk's case is too egregious to ignore.
