A brain-led marketing consultancy. Our mission is to build better brands with brighter ideas. Ideas that mean business.
What happened at Bondi this week was … unimaginable.

But you can respond with fear, anger and sadness. Or with something more positive. More profound.

So, as Xmas approaches, in the words of the great JL, let's hope the world can find a way to live in peace and be as one.

Imagine that.

Writing a vision/mission statement?

Easy test - cut and paste your draft text as if you were going to post it here on BS (or your social channel of choice).

If it exceeds the character limit, it's too f*cking long - so start cutting words you don't need.

Seems ironic that the bigger the company, the more small-minded its leaders tend to be.

If you're going to claim to be "innovative" on your company's website, maybe having a "News" section that's completely empty isn't the best way to show it ...

Your ideas connect better when people feel connected to you.

But how do you do that?

One option is the “Fast Friends Protocol”. A set of 36 Questions designed by psychologists in the mid-1990s to quickly and practically “create closeness” between strangers.

Worth checking out. This is Q1.

The "I'm not biased" bias is still our favourite of all the biases ...

Far harder to *show* your values than just *saying* you have them.

Apparently the new season of Stranger Things dropped a few days ago.

You'd have thought Netflix would have done more to publicise it, right? 😉

Which is more likely to change the culture in a team?

An 8 hour 1 day workshop, or 4 x 2 hour sessions spread out over 3 months?

The science behind habits would suggest the latter, so why does this happen so rarely?

3 checks so people don't think your website was designed by idiots :-

- left align, don't centre align body copy
- fonts - size big enough, and contrast colour enough with background so reader doesn't have to squint
- menu links go where they're supposed to

Surprising how many sites fail these.

How can you tell your marketing activity is going to be dull?

Because it came out of bland planning.

Telling teenagers NOT to do something makes them want to do it more.

So the imminent social media ban doesn't seem like the smartest way to solve the problem and shows a baffling lack of psychological insight.

Highly commended, you say? Is anyone ever lowly commended? Or even just commended?

Behavioural science : paying the bill is a pain point. Reducing the pain keeps customers happier.

Telstra : F*ck that. We'll email you the bill, text you to tell you we've sent the bill, send a reminder before it's due, and oh, we'll raise the price every year while making the service worse.

When did batshit become the quantifiable measure of being boring? And being crazy?
November 25, 2025 at 5:21 AM
If the answer was obvious, everyone would be doing it.

If they'd asked, we'd have done it for $95m.

You can tell AI writing from something an actual person wrote in the same way you can tell a microwave meal from something an actual person cooked.

And in both cases, the method says how little or how much the creator thinks of you.

Ever found yourself tuning out during a brainstorming session because other (extrovert) people keep talking and don't listen?

Today's random discovery - when The Flintstones first launched in 1960, Winston cigarettes sponsored it and ran ads like this -

Almost hard to believe when seen through modern eyes.

Hey George, do you think we could squeeze an Empire logo on the bottom of the Star Destroyer? Need to build the brand awareness early.

Just as well marketing teams don't make movies, right?

You might assume people will interpret your use of "proud" in your social post as the first meaning here, but usually what follows it, means most people interpret it as the other meaning.

- Ah, so you're a Chief Marketing Officer ...
