Wikipedia has a mild conservative bias, as it insists on what it calls 'reliable sources' - which mostly means they have been published by capitalist gatekeeping institutions.

The only reason anybody imagines that it has a liberal or left-wing bias is because it's largely accurate. They hate that.

Anyone seen any mega wooden pyramids ahead of Bonfire Night yet? Keen to see (and publish) photos from around the city if anyone spots any in the coming days. Have news in tomorrow's newsletter about the council's plans for these (and guess what: it's not to set them on fire).

This is a very positive step forward for the future of The Brunton theatre.

The question now is who might seen this as an opportunity... And then how the ELC winnows the sharks from the good guys!
NEWS: East Lothian Council tests market for Brunton replacement.

ELC issues Preliminary Market Consultation (PMC) for Musselburgh’s Brunton Hall, in an attempt to find suppliers, funders, or developers who are capable of delivering a new theatre.

The horrible irony is that the recent treatment of poppies shows that actually they're doing nothing to help remember their origins.
The bitterly ironic transformation of the iconography of the poppy, from sombre reminder of the senseless futility of a war in which the British ruling class systematically ordered the wholesale slaughter of millions of working-class men, to 'War Christmas', says everything about the current crisis
That's it. Peak remembrancy shop window has been located.

The @theguardian.com on the truth of the Maccabi fan ban from the Aston Villa game in November.

This has been known and written about in the football chats for a while - obviously not read by Starmer who promised to fund any necessary policing. Est cost? £6m.

When was the last time you heard a politician in the media asked anything like-

-How will you make sure asylum seekers can reach the UK safely & refugees are protected?

-How will you make sure people coming to this country to work or study are treated equally & with respect?

I cannot remember.
Where else could this very smart & bound to succeed approach to “beating” the far right be happening then?

Friday's Scotsman column, on Margaret Thatcher's 100th anniversary. The sad recent history of the UK shows her to have been wrong about almost everything. But in an age of
failing politics, we now need leaders who can do as she did, in one crucial way....

On her 100th birthday, there’s one lesson the left needs to learn from Thatcher to avoid disaster
Progressive political parties need to find leaders who are able, as Margaret Thatcher once was, to change the political weather and usher in a new age of better lives for ordinary people

Looking forward to a theatre double-bill in Edinburgh today, starting with 'War Horse' at the Festival Theatre this afternoon, followed by Uma Nada-Rajah's 'Black Hole Sign' @traversetheatre.bsky.social tonight. I loved War Horse in 2014, while Black Hole Sign is a new production for me to enjoy.
