This is one of my favorites of all time, Days of the New's second album, which is a great peek inside the head of a musical prodigy. I think the key word here is "orchestration." I mean, here Travis Meeks has woven together strands of harmony and melody in a way which is transcendent.

I just received the last two anthologies where I have a story for my shelf and counted up, there are twenty short stories of mine out there in the anthologysphere. What a convenient, round number.

Fiends and friends alike, it's OUT, IT'S OUT and ABOUT and PROBABLY TERRIBLE, but it's mine and I love it.

As a bonus at the end of NIKOLA TESLA AND THE EMPEROR OF PLAGUES is a short story titled "What Doesn't Die," featuring Nikola Tesla, Doctor Omega, and a Bride of Frankenstein free of the influence of James Whale and Universal Pictures. The story is set at the 1893 World's Fair.

Just so you know, I'm going to be basically insufferable about this. We sat on the book for over a decade for various reasons and now it's about to be out in the world and YE GODS I am excited!

I was listening to Korn on the drive back to work today, which is probably dangerous. I get into it. Especially the screamy bits that escalate. Like this gem from "Divine" on the first album:

"Know what? Fuck you.
I'm fed up with you.
I'm not as good as you?
Fuck you,
I'm better than you."

Release date is 7 January, 2026.

(I know it's short notice, but as we were gearing up to let it out into the world, we realized the seventh was the anniversary of Tesla's passing and thought it appropriate.)

I have EPUB and MOBI files, and a PDF of the print version. DM me for email or link.

Somebody got two (2) KU pages into SAD WINGS OF DESTINY and noped out, lol.

Is fair, it's not for everybody.

I don't know who needs to see this, but flush the urinal.

It pisses me off to have to flush before. That's valuable holding-it-in time. And to see this water which is supposed to be cool and clear and probably delicious (I don't know) befouled and mustardish and chunky incenses me.

Ugh. Does this mean that, at 50, I'm going to have to learn how to draw?

Fuck.

This agent querying phase of my life has been incredibly frustrating, and I'm looking forward to it being just OVER, one way or another.

Do you like reading ghost stories at this time of year? Me too! ✨️
Sadie is a sad, anxious lesbian in her 40s with nothing of her own. When she inherits a friend's apartment, she uses the unexpected gift to make a new life. She even adopts a cat.

But when she opens a room that's been shut up for years, she learns the gift has strings even the giver couldn't sever.

You can get my latest novella half off or in a bundle with everything else in my store for 5 bucks during the itch Winter Sale, which runs until January 5th! I'll never debut a new work this way again, so if you want to grab something new cheap right out of the gate, check it out! ✨️

I just priced editing for the last two novels I finished writing (not anytime recently, lol) and a bare-bones copy edit for the both of them was ~$5,000.

This kind of quote makes me extremely appreciative of the friends-and-family rate I've been getting for years!

Why does time on a digital billboard cost just as much as on an old-style, uh, analog billboard? You have less time on it (since it rotates through ads) and there're no printing or posting costs.

Shit is rigged.

I wonder how much a hacker costs, instead.

I was four, and my brother brought home a record he was very excited about.

"Why's it all black?" I asked on our way to the basement. He explained, "shut up," and put it on.

The iron bell tolling and into guitar riff for "Hell's Bells" is the first musical experience I can remember.
First song you remember hearing as a kid?

It was '61 or '62, and mum had the '45. Been in my head ever since.

If that had been me instead of Patrick Combs, they'd NEVER see that $95k again.

Well, that was hands-down probably the worst book I've ever finished. I probably shouldn't, but I'm going to leave a review on Goodreads to justify the one-star rating. I think this is the first time since reading one of the non-Frank Herbert Dune books that I've been actually angry with an author.
