The rule of law shields both the innocent and the guilty, just as the sun shines down on them all
Take it from some who teaches about drone strikes, “I shed no tear for that guy” and “this is bad, it shouldn’t have happened” can be normal reactions to have simultaneously.

Opposition to political violence isn’t about personal sympathy for an individual target per se, it’s about society.

They appropriate our collective surplus - the surplus *we* produce - and invest it in doing whatever is most profitable to them, regardless of human needs and ecology.

Fact: If we do not have democratic control over our surplus, we do not live in a democracy. Simple as that.

It's crucial to understand that what's bad about income inequality is not just that it enables elites to consume more; it enables them to *control production*. They decide how to use *our* labour and *our* resources, and shape *our* future. It is a dictatorship of the rich.

From what I saw, antifascist protesters got lost, split up into small groups, and were generally confused. Meanwhile, the nazis and racists were organised, stayed together, and were able to do whatever they wanted. They should have been stopped long before they got to Parliament.
The nazis & their flagwit followers pretty much had the run of (the March for White Australia in) Melbourne/Naarm today.
I hope it’s been made perfectly fucking clear that laws designed to bolster police powers to prevent ‘violent’ or ‘objectionable’ protests will never be meaningfully turned on Nazis.

You can’t police your way out of fascism but you can certainly police your way into it.

True. More concerning is the positive reception.
If you have a Neo-Nazi leader (Tom Sewell) speaking at your rally, its a Neo-Nazi rally. This is not difficult.

The messaging for the viral rally is slippery and vague, but the organisers are just another restructure of the far-right.

Correction to the earlier post referencing the 8th of August (bsky.app/profile/thom...) - I wasn't thinking and got it wrong, thank you @slackbastard.bsky.social!
88 = HH = Heil Hitler, so a ref to him, not the SS; this is also why the boys have been told to wear Helly Hansen gear (nod nod, wink wink)

A very short thread on Neo-Nazi links to the upcoming March for Australia.

1. National Socialist Network leader Tom Sewell claimed ownership of the march just 3 days after the website was registered. See image below from his Telegram channel.

Not to be a nerd or anything, but no, 1723 was also a pretty bad year in terms of having a British Parliament controlled by rich landlords combined with a moral panic over black bloc and property damage by the lower classes. Yayyy I love when history does that whole repeating thing. /s

I recently gave a talk at QueerCon about the links between queerphobia and fascism, and how the former is a pretty reliable warning sign for the latter.

One really great question I was asked at the time was why Naarm/Melbourne is seemingly so effective (by global standards) in resisting fascism. 🧵
