Chilling piece on employment effects of AI on early careers. Includes this line, which will probably become the norm for many firms: "Managers at Shopify must now justify hiring a human by first explaining why AI can’t do the job."

Star wars!

Narkina 5 built rebels.

Every system that grinds people for “efficiency” ends up teaching them how it works. Musk, Trump, Sam. It's the same pattern. Oppression, inequality, is a factory that forges its own resistance. The empire is making rebels right now.

Last weekend, I retraced the steps of two of the most important moments in American (and Chicago) labor history, starting with the Haymarket Massacre.

But the Haymarket Massacre wasn’t just a tragedy. It still provides a compass for us to fight against fascism today:

Just absolute garbage from the NYT. It takes a really special kind of person to ignore a mountain of evidence and look at one RCT exploring a specific causal finding, and then say that because we didn't see certain brainwave activity at age 4 that $333/mo for every kid would not help the poor.
For many, the logic seemed unassailable: Giving poor families money would measurably improve the lives of their children. A few years ago, social scientists set out to test whether that assumption was right.

The results of the experiment shocked them. Listen to "The Daily."
More Money Was Supposed to Help Poor Kids. So Why Didn’t It?
A new study may undercut the idea that cash payments to low-income families can end the cycle of childhood poverty.

Been thinking about consciousness and meditation. And if you think of consciousness as a focal point where a bunch of distributed signals turn into something that feels like a singular self, meditation and the oneness you sometimes feel, maybe that's just putting some processes on halt?

Zohran Mamdani's victory wasn't a one-off for progressives.

I'm currently polling just single digits behind the lead, even though I was a "long-shot" candidate 3 months ago. That's because people-first politics WORK and we can't do it without you:

So food prices and housing prices are soaring. Cost of living. Industrial produced goods are still affordable. Scalability issues? Housing entrepenours already have low margins, as do farmers.

Maybe the problem is one of purchasing power, where has that gone the last 50 years? For food and houses?

Funny how the goal was to build something other than twitter, but the goal and metrics we use to gauge it's success is the same.

Why should we want this to be another cancerous link to link farm with engagement metrics being the be all end all.
