I'm not a static stretches guy. But I followed @bedrocm.bsky.social's suggested video targeting my IT band, and I finished 5 miles feeling like I could run more. The new shoes continue to feel great, and I mostly left the sidewalk and returned to softer asphalt. Always tweaking things. #running

I'm surprised by how much I like the idea of the Steam Frame, as something of a VR skeptic. But holy moly that is the exact controller I've been wanting for my PC and Steam Deck for over four years. And a powerful Linux gaming PC to round out the lineup. Looking forward to reviews

Naked eye aurora in the middle of light-polluted Memphis! I was literally running down the street in pajama pants and a winter jacket, texting all the neighbors to come outside. Excited is an understatement - I've waited my entire life to see that faint pink glow with my own two eyes. More to come?!

Americans in the upper latitudes, go outside! The northern lights are popping off right now! Picture from family in suburban Indiana. I'm so jealous right now in my light-polluted southern city.

I tried doing a couple things differently today: I traded the harsh camber of my usual neighborhood streets for flat and level sidewalks. I also got new shoes. My knee's review: "I want to still be angry, but damn this extra cushion is nice." #running

Decided to try some strength work to help rehab my knee. Despite being so squats-heavy, it didn't feel like I was stressing the knee at all. Maybe a little strength and stabilizing is exactly what it needs.

This cold north air got my knee feeling like the Edmund Fitzgerald rn. #running

This is gonna seem crazy, but slowing down and running less seems to help my angry knee. I'm gonna add new shoes to the treatment list too.

A cold front came through and it is LEGGINGS SZN. Bring on those beautiful winter temps! #running

Writing about a 100 mile race is a lot like #running it: There's a lot of prep work to cover first. My first of two blogs about the Wolverine 100 covers my journey from my first ultra in 2023 to now, and goes over my drop bags, gear, and the days leading up to the race. Full race report to come!
Wolverine State 100 – Pre-Race
A Dream Becomes A Plan I had wanted to run a 100 mile race almost from the moment I got into ultra running. In January 2023 I was one month removed from my first marathon and considering signing up…

My sibling just ran a 3:38 marathon on 20 miles per week and a few days removed from a gnarly flu. Adding more weight to my theory that I'm actually the slowest runner in the family. I'm a proud brother today! #running

Got hit with one sharp pang in my knee that was intense enough to end the run. I walked the last 2 km home pain-free. I can't wait to be fully recovered. Which of course is part of the issue. #running

Same run as yesterday, not quite as smooth. But I've done 6 runs and 40 miles in the past 7 days. Crawling back towards normalcy ahead of my Cocodona plan! Which will be anything but normal. #running

My longest run since the race, and the first with zero fatigue and zero pain! This isn't a license to go wild now, but it's promising feedback. I miss these runs without worry. #running

Just submitted my first ticket for the Western States 100 lottery. The odds are low enough to essentially be symbolic, but c'mon! As I like to call these unlikely lottery entries, it's a license to dream.

Mondays are rest days, which means they're for sunset walks with your partner

I'm not the dudeliest dude on my dudeliest days. But I did fix my car's heat and AC by myself today by following a 5 minute Youtube video. I can feel a single manly hair battling its way out of my chest now.

No better way to stave off any Sunday Scaries than an evening run. No outright knee pain, just a constant whisper in the last mile, telling me, "I could go at any time, mate. Just test me, I'm wired to blow." #running

Rain run! My left knee was fine until the last 0.05 miles, while my right arch handled the majority of complaints today. Bodily and mentally I feel myself coming back and getting excited to run each day. I'll get back to 100% soon. Just takes patience. #running

I dressed up like a very convincing golf ball and mingled with the first wave of trick or treaters. Then I hurried home on a mildly angry knee to get my bowl of candy ready. #running

I took a day off, threw out the Garmin plan, did some partner-recommended IT band stretches, *and just went for a run*. Nothing but vibes. I had a couple pings from my left shin and right foot. But they were nothing, and all is right. #running

This run felt pretty good! Until it didn't. I'm clearly a little banged up still. I was enjoying a rain run until mile 8, when the outside of my left knee tugged twice in a strange way. After the third, I called for a ride. Nothing too alarming. Just giving my body a LOT of grace right now. #running

I just realized that I'm 300 days sober today! That's a lot of clearer evenings and better sleep.
