I made an album and now I’m tired: https://adamschumaker.bandcamp.com/album/love-death-sleep-money
My leadership training take away that I cannot shake is to express more gratitude.

So much of social media infuriates me and I wish I had capacity to create more change.

Instead, I’m trying to push the good stuff out there and have more meaningful discussions with people.

Any #altotrombone players that want to perform my ridiculous work, “Form 1040”? For speaking alto trombone and piano?

DM me for the score!

I have 15+ years experience in arts administration and I am at the point where I feel confident in handling any size budget, fundraising with donors and foundations, and lately, staff management.

I am ready for a larger role and more impact but I see two problems- my title and my industry…

The last couple tracks of LDSM lean into the death part of the title.

Track 11 - black on grey

This was actually a songwriting prompt some friends and I did during the pandemic. I imagined being Rothko, finishing up some of his last works.

It’s #bandcampfriday ! All proceeds go to the artist!

Track 12 - The Day We…

The full title is “The Day We Lost You” - this is as me processing our unexpected miscarriage. It was the hardest song to perform and I don’t know if I will ever perform it again. We had to do it live in La Luna studios with the string trio.

#bandcampfriday - go support!

Track 10 - Chicago’s Just a City

This song came out really fast. It’s a conglomeration of stories. I put it in a city we love visiting.

Paulie’s drums really gave it its groove in 3 - so tasty!

It’s a song with a bit of hope and sadness wrapped all together.

Track 9 - Didn’t Want to Come

Much of what I write comes from experiences, but they are also stories. This story was overheard at a bar and I thought it would be a funny bop of a song. I also got to play horns on it though thankfully Craig came to my trombone rescue.

Track 8 - You’re Just a Body

What a weird song! It’s double tracked guitar, voice, and Yamaha psr 2. It’s a through-composed song I wrote as a demo in a songwriting class I was teaching.

I don’t like the NRA’s success in fostering a culture of treating widely available public deadly weaponry as an inevitability that we can only hope to prepare for, like an extreme weather event
Holy shit, they did it. They wrote the headline.

Track 7 - Ten Minutes

The oldest song on the album. I wrote an electronic version on my first iMac in an apartment on Catherine Street back when I was attending the WMU SoM - I later translated it to guitar & my long time songwriting partner Dustin wrote the riff.

Track 6 - Get Back To You

Why would I write a prechorus and a chorus with the same one line? No idea. When it comes around, it’s like a Mantra repeating itself 10 times before you launch back into the verse.

This song is epic. Key changes. Crazy instruments. Added beats.

Who out there in the music world wants to revive #musochat here on bsky?

Track 5 - Sad Boy

I wrote this track in a flurry. I wanted to write a song that touched on our misguided sense of masculinity and so this came out.

I really like how the string trio (thank you Joel, Kennedy, and Jordan!) sounded with just a double tracked guitar.

Track 4 - Long Way Back

I wanted horns on this track, which meant I needed to write out the score. Before I wrote it out I demoed in in Logic and was befuddled by my horn interlude - somehow it changed meter to 3/4. I didn’t even know it!

Listen to see if you hear it. #bandcampfriday August 1!

Track 3 - My Friend

I wrote this song and initially arranged it with my friend Dustin (who played the second guitar riff on the album) & my friend Tom. I have an old recording from 2010 somewhere.

This poppier track flows harmonically from the first 2 tracks! More in comments!

Track 2 on Love Death Sleep Money is called “Put It Up on YouTube” - the piano riff came from my attempt at writing a poppy bass line.

The song is in G but starts on a Am/C chord and uses an Ebmaj7 as the transition out of the chorus. Who doesn’t love chromaticism?

In undergrad, I wrote a ton of songs. I was able to record four of them live at Interlochen Public Radio and I called that the “IPR demo” and then I self recorded an EP called “The Old World” - they are out there streaming and digitally on Bandcamp.

In 18 days it’s #bandcampfriday - I haven’t talked about my music for sometime so I figured I’d talk about some songs and compositions. Ask questions if you have them!

JD is unsure which means it’s good. Still some mugs left. CDs, and digital streaming.

I had the opportunity to record a master class with the Art & Culture Collective of Battle Creek, about music revenue and how to maximize your revenue sources.

I’m happy to do this talk elsewhere!
