Whatever I'm supposed to feel in these tearful moments is cheapened when I know what it cost to get there. It's just hard to invest knowing that a little brown girl paid in full for these people to ride off into their respective sunsets, to say nothing of sidelining elsewhere #StrangerThings

It's just all so disappointing. Erica feels like another notch in tropes and myths that stalk people of color in media and life alike. The most compelling relationship suppressed and missing the payoff after much trauma farming. Top that off with a death as raced as it was illogical. #StrangerThings

I'm here for the Will Byers glow up, but the fact is, Kali dying creates the need for a retconning of logic around how Will's "antenna" works with respect to Henry that we're given in the first half. Also, there's nothing about this plan that doesnt work all the same with her there. #StrangerThings

If, in the end, the plan was to choose door #3, then why is Jane the only one of the two that gets to walk through it? If she's powerful enough for these elaborate deceptions at scale, why isn't she positioned to be there at the end when 2 psychics are needed anyway? #StrangerThings

And then theres Kali, whose death makes increasingly less sense the more we interrogate her mere handful of plot advancing moments. First theres that egregious hallway scene, where she's left in the position that will ultimately get her killed #StrangerThings

And speaking of Max+Lucas, it's crazy work to bury all that chemistry and gravitas under heavy-handed anti-confessions and sort of trite despair between characters we already know are plot-armored into the sunset together. How has Lucas not earned the coveted "I Love You"?

How interesting it would have been to see the no nonsense, BMF thing play out with a girl who would need to reckon with fear in a familiar, yet spooky place? Having her next to Max (who she knows) so we could get, at the very least, an oblique love confession forecasting the big one? #StrangerThings

If you're going to make this point about the importance of fear and the emotional range of children, why did we not explore what lies in Erica's heart? Sure Holly slots right into the Looking Glass homage, but Erica was already deeply immersed into the system at play. #StrangerThings

I think part of that reason is the way Erica is sort of a Manic Pixie Dream Child, in the sense that she's as if someone distilled down Samuel L. Jackson into an 11 year old girl. Love the BMF energy and the memes birthed from her portrayal, but ultimately there's a "there" there. #StrangerThings

The #StrangerThings finale leaves me with a lot of reservations. First, and probably most important, is asking why Erica Sinclair simply isn't Holly? The young actor who plays Holly did great work, no question, but it feels important to ask why Erica isnt in that same space?

Watching the #StrangerThings finale. Killing off Kali like that feels so race-coded. Why even bring her back if all you were going to do was kill her off in this ham-fisted way.

The oral argument in Slaughter is maybe the single most terrifying thing I've ever heard. Feels very much like watching the literal moment the republic actually ended. #SupremeCourt #SCOTUS

@strictscrutiny.bsky.social Re: Learning Resources. On these historical points, I keep wondering if it matters that some broad delegations of authority to Art. II are the consequences of not having tools like 16A. Stat. 251. and other non-tariff revenue, funding sources

And let me get this right, its fine for the "democratic process" to decide whether women bleed out and die or are used as incubators, but its somehow not equally well suited to allow introducing the existence of people with identities different to their own? Make 👏 it 👏 make 👏 sense #SupremeCourt

This line in (4) is rich. You can't possibly draw any sound conclusion over how use of directives and classroom materials actually cashes out in practice without some concrete showing of what's happening on the ground. Everything else is just assumption on vapor and innuendo #SupremeCourt #Mahmoud

Reading Alito's opinion in Mahmoud. Le sigh... 😩 This thing is as tedious as it is insufferable. So much legal word salad to barely mask an incessant whinging over the inescapable fact that LGBTQIA+ people exist. #SupremeCourt #SCOTUS #Mahmoud

One can only help but wonder when the western world will finally stop trying to relitigate the Crusades. Exactly how many times must we try reducing a civilization to dust before humanity trumps...whatever this latest insanity is? #Iran #Israel

EOD, as a trans PoC, its a devastating ruling. Another in a long line of decisions undercutting the spirit and purpose of bedrock civil protections like 14A. AFAIC, the Roberts court has been doing its best Taney//Rehnquist impression for years, and this is just their latest number #Skrmetti

Maybe another ? For our friends at @strictscrutiny.bsky.social, but I wonder whether a test case for exploring that tension with Obergefell is already en route via 5C, 6C, or even 8 or 11C. Would imagine marriage equality for homosexual couples an easier target than interracial unions. #Skrmetti.
June 18, 2025 at 10:32 PM
Maybe @strictscrutiny.bsky.social will have more insight on this, but can't see how the majority & concurring opinions dont create tension with Obergefell & Loving. If simply not saying the quiet part out loud work around 14A, what work is left for 14A or 1983 to do? #Skrmetti #SupremeCourt
June 18, 2025 at 10:25 PM
Equally strange (from Oral Arg. too) are the frequent references to Geduldig v. Aiello, a decision Congress despised so much they adopted the Pregnancy Discrimination Act in 1978 to contravene the decision. #Skrmetti #SupremeCourt
June 18, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Read the opinion in #Skrmetti today...just the latest in a string of tragedies in law. The only way the majority makes any sense is by ignoring the first order question SB1 is asking, which is centrally concerned with an individuals sex in order to determine what follows from that initial position.

The way this world is being shattered by the small minded dreams of doddering old men...smh.
June 14, 2025 at 3:13 PM
It's hard not to wake up every morning, and send mass text to everyone I know who voted for Trump and ask, "so this...this is the world you wanted?" More horrifying than that might be just how many of them would reply "yes"
