I’ll never understand why people act like periods are some taboo topic that shouldn’t be discussed. There shouldn’t be shame around discussing your period. It shouldn’t be frowned upon to talk about a biological function almost half the population has or had (menopause).

Seriously… an immediate pit of dread in my chest and stomach. Same with getting letters from the SSA. We shouldn’t have to live in this much fear of our government. Governments are supposed to HELP people, not send them spiraling every time we watch/read the news.

This thought inspired by this paper. I'm one of the 8884 people with a personality disorder diagnosis who accessed public mental health services between 2008-2017. My records were counted in this study that showed how people like me are "significant users of resources". 1/3

people with NPD (and ASPD) go through so much stigma it's insane. a majority of the people that have cluster b disorders are themselves abuse victims who need support. abuse can cycle through generations, but a personality disorder doesn't make you an abuser, your actions do

I feel like a lot of why people throw these around so much, especially the first two, is they see it as this mythical thing and don’t realize they’re actually not that rare. ASPD in general population is cited around 3% and that’s only *diagnosed* cases so…id guess its at least double that
obviously the same will also apply to the words "sociopath", "psychopath", "borderline", "schizophrenic", etc.

Also a reminder that it’s easier for young human rights activists to meet the diagnostic criteria for ASPD (being a “sociopath”) than abusers, terrorists, or even human traffickers.

So often mental illness is used to scapegoat bad behavior, because it removes society’s accountability and puts the blame on one person. It’s easier to blame it on mental health, but that’s misguided.

in a way, I think public perception gets skewed simply because "woman with BPD stabs boyfriend" or "guy with ASPD commits serial arson" is a lurid story, and "evangelical dad beats his kids" or "politician decides to cut disability services, indirectly killing 167 people" is business as usual
