We're featuring a guest post today from @sallynicholls.bsky.social "It was not fun. There were a lot of tears. A lot of boredom. A crippling sense of responsibility and a constant awareness that I was failing somebody, somewhere, no matter what I was doing."

"When I had a baby and a toddler, everything was hard. Now I have a toddler and a preschooler, and the hard has begun to shrink– or perhaps I have grown." I'm in @thepom.bsky.social today writing about how circumstances don't always change, but parents can.

"There is simply no replacement for firsthand experience managing a toddler when it comes to building empathy and solidarity with caregivers—whether or not you choose to become a parent yourself." @laureneahmed.bsky.social makes the case for babysitting today: www.the-pom.com/p/bring-back...
Bring Back the Teen Babysitters

"I don’t have to carry anyone– they are racing each other across uneven pavement (still just as prone to falling down and screaming bloody murder, though). It isn’t the cold exercise sending a surge of warmth to my heart." New post from @amycolleen.bsky.social today: www.the-pom.com/p/i-promise-...

"Was it morning or evening, my children would ask. Like the early days of post-partum, I had no idea, I could only guess by trying to carbon date the apple rinds left on the couch. The bite marks looked fresh. It must be morning." @clhubes.bsky.social in The Pom today www.the-pom.com/p/i-survived...

We're honored to have the brilliant @lindsaynicolle.bsky.social writing at The Pom today! "Raising kids today means more than just curbing behavior or encouraging independence. It’s constantly fighting against oppressive public opinion and literal rising tides." www.the-pom.com/p/motherhood...
Motherhood in the Age of Incels

The proximity thing is so huge. If you don’t live close to your friends, the chances you will see them regularly drop to basically nil. (Assuming you don’t have a “built-in” reason to see them like a class, group, religious community, e.g.)
"It’s easy to conclude that everyone is simply too flaky and selfish these days to show up for each other, or that modern parents are too particular about their precious babies to accept help from others who might do things differently.... I think that’s a lazy read." www.the-pom.com/p/dont-blame...
