This... and it manifests in an infinite number of ways. Initially, I thought of origin, it's too narrow. I think it's anything foreign to a homogenous group, thus marginalizing someone and depriving them of both their dignity and rights.
Xenophobia is a plague on humanity heavily rooted in theistic beliefs and the influence of theism on societies and cultures.
