I really like the show Veep. I remember I was rewatching an episode in 2016, during republican primaries. There is a scene with a ridiculous presidential debate in the show. It made me realize that since the first time I watched that scene, reality had become way more ridiculous than the satire.

I used to enjoy the old "Daily show" with John Stewart and especially the Colbert Report.

But since Trump got elected, I have had a hard time finding these news satire shows funny. The completely broke them.

So the Turkish expectations are:

Kurds must first disarm with zero guarantees and steps taken by the Turkish state, then they can "negotiate" from a position of total surrender? Meanwhile Turkey is systematically murdering Kurds in Syria...?
According to the pro-govt newspapers, Ankara's roadmap is as follows:

1) Wait-and-see period (4-5 months): PKK and its affiliates in Europe&elsewhere will be closely observed for their compliance with the call for disarmament&dissolution.
Given the pace and mostly positive responses, my working assumption is that a consensus had more or less been reached among the actors involved. It is likely that we will see some sort of an arrangement concerning Ocalan's release.

Several EU politicians call on Turkey to stop aggression against Kurds in Syria "because the Kurds fought ISIS". True, the Kurds saved your butt, but it disturbes me how the right to self-detemination is rendered conditional this way. Kurds have rights because they *are*, not because they saved you!

I remember lots of international volunteers in YPG saying they are in Syria to fight ISIS, in order to save Europe from them.

Kobane in 2024 is like Afrin in 2018, just good ol' Turkey and their ethnic cleansings. Nobody cared.

Kobane in 2014 was about ISIS. ISIS was not a card carrying "NATO ally". And people feared it would affect them directly. Lots of attacks happened in Europe in 2014-2016.

"Been at war with each other"

make it sound very both-sided... More like, one side has been relentlessly attacking the other on the orders of their foreign masters.

When Al Qaida is more trustworthy than gangs controlled by Nato ally Turkey and of course USA
The issue now is getting SNA gangs to allow the exit of civilians. Usually not something they are willing to do unless they can rob and abuse them and arbitrarily murder who they see fit. Hopefully, some deal can be made with HTS to guarantee their safe conduct through SNA areas.

As can be seen from my many angry tweets, I never understood why western journalists and academics discuss Turkish elections as if they are in any way real.
I’m sure I still have opinions and might occasionally venture them, in particular at election time.

But looking back, Turkish politics was a game I misunderstood as a fair fight. It never was. It was always rigged, before I was born and probably long after I’m gone.

Accepting that is freedom.
