hey, sorry that i am openly weeping in this cafe. the soundtrack of the 1994 Little Women came on and i started thinking about Beth's death. this is a regular occurrence, so please mind your business.

i'm about to start writing my very first chunk of the dissertation. i have so many complicated feelings-- overwhelmed, inadequate, thrilled, anxious, grateful.

i finished 1984 by orwell today, and it wasn't... that... good? it was just too "preachy." great message, great intent-- just poor execution, imho.

Headed to a meeting with my supervisors. Five months and I still get giddy that I get to do this!

Does anyone have access to this article that they would be willing to pass along?

“Doing Gender” by Candace West and Don H. Zimmerman (1987) (Vol. 1, No. 2, pp. 125-151).

Here's a book review that I wrote on The Widening of God's Mercy: Sexuality Within the Biblical Story by Christopher B. Hays and Richard B. Hays.
'The Widening of God’s Mercy: Sexuality Within the Biblical Story' | Review
The idea of God's mind changing implies that it was initially set on exclusion. And if God’s mercy can be widened, then God’s mercy was at one point narrower.

Do not read Philo when you have a hangover. Philo is not a suitable hangover cure. He will only make your headache and nausea worse.

Honored to say that our little book won the Award of Merit in the Bible and Devotional category in the 2024 Christianity Today Book Awards! So thrilled and honored!

To whomever studies Biblical Masculinities at St Andrews after me, you're welcome for ordering all of these books for the library. That was me. 🤣

Moving to another country is, in some ways, as glamorous as it sounds. But it is also constant paper work, chat rooms, and listening to hold music for hours on end. I just want to do my silly little PhD reading. 😭

I made a mini-thanksgiving dinner for my family last night. I don't feel traditionally "southern" in a lot of ways, but cooking a meal with lots of butter, carbs, and brown sugar for the people I love really connects me to my Arkansan roots.

I just received this gift from my parents. I have cried like five times since opening it! Thecla means the world to me as a woman in Pauline studies. Her example of faithfulness, courage, and audacity inspired me to be the scholar I am today.

"Not surprisingly, those who have written about Paul, almost all of them men, have not usually given a moment’s thought to the masculinity of Paul; presumably they have all been too busy writing books about Paul to think very much about their own masculinity either." - David J.A. Clines 🤣

what's your favorite ancient gender convention? mine has to be that women were considered to be stinky and leaky. so much so, that men would boast of their constipation by comparing their poops to arid little pebbles. men have always been silly.

As more folks migrate here, the list of scholars/professionals engaging with ancient gender and sexuality starter kit grows. There is room for others to be included. go.bsky.app/7WfPe2L
