On Monday 22 Sep 2025, Rose was diagnosed with inoperable, terminal lung cancer. At this time I am providing her hospice care, trying to make her feel as comfortable and loved as possible until it’s time for her to go.

Trident Seafoods : “After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that Munyaka and Mike have decided not to move forward with an offer at this time. As I previously mentioned, they brought you and one other candidate onsite for interviews. Instead of moving to an offer, they decided to reopen the position and will be starting the hiring process over from the beginning. I've reached out to them to request more specific feedback but have not heard back from them yet.” After multiple delays in setting a second interview, I had removed myself from consideration for the position. That was August. I was reached out by Trident Seafoods HR to reconsider as they only had one other candidate they were considering and I had impressed the hiring manager in the first interview. They wanted to move quickly and fill the position by the beginning of October. I agreed. I was scintillating in the second interview round. I had the right answers to every question, I illustrated how I could link the various platforms to provide complete coverage and modernize their entire enterprise, I felt I bonded with at least two of the interviewers. This was the email response I received today. The cruelty is the point.

I’m writing this outside because I can’t bear to do so in the same room as her.

Rose has not eaten for two weeks. I’ve tried all kinds of liquids, but she literally cannot eat — she will cry at her food dish, lean in for a sniff, then turns and goes directly into the bathroom.

She’s only had half the life she deserved. We were supposed to grow old together.
Rose, a black and white tuxedo cat with the best moustache is dozing on a brown sofa in a sunbeam. Rose is eepy monorail mode with both white foresocks presented for admiration, now on the back of the sofa having followed the path of the sun. Rose normally only knocks the grocery bags over but here she is in a rare paper cave predator pose. Rose back on the sofa with her white belly patch up and out and basking in the sun, her favourite catnip toys — knitted orange octopus, PRIDE rainbow, and weird plaid blunt with eyes — as pillows.
