Do you want to find the best #books on #Korea? Well, I don't have time to read everything, but I do have some recommendations. These are, mostly, academic books. I don't read many mass market books on Korea, and when I do, I'm often annoyed with their facile shallow misunderstandings.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Side quest for this week-- make a best music of 2025 list-- which has been complicated by realizing I never did 2024. So I guess I'll do both as I try to revise and resubmit two articles. #kpop

Probably can't include this if I limit my list to under 100. youtu.be/rr4gKSjmh9Q?...

Again - I am cautiously optimistic the utter fucking blatancy of the attempt is creating an effective and true counter narrative.
So the “closed” daycares…were closed during the last week of the year, during which most daycares are closed. And the doors were “locked,” which they are at every daycare. And they wouldn’t let in a “journalist” with a camera…which they wouldn’t do at any daycare. Got it.

My "East Asian Popular Culture" class has students do a "Creative Project" (anything related to EA pop culture), and then write a paper about it. The combo of creativity and writing is supposed to both push them away from AI and allow them to demonstrate their own individual learning.

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
Annex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanes
Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

Hey, since we're all talking about CECOT again, And how sending innocent people to solitary confinement is a fundamentally evil practice...

Can we talk about solitary confinement in US prisons and jails yet? No?

It's only bad when the GOP does it?

It's okay when it happens to Black people?
Fine. Let's compare CECOT to being in solitary confinement in a US jail.

In both cases we have innocent people.

In both cases we have what international organizations have defined as torture.

In one case we have people in a cell 23.5 hrs a day (CECOT), and in the other 23.26 hrs a day (county).

Koreans actually celebrate #solstice on the 22nd (it's the 21st according to calculations of the placement of the earth). Traditionally you should eat bean porridge #팥죽 on winter solstice, so I stopped at the sijang & picked some up. The juk sellers had a large sign to remind everyone #동지

MTG isn't coming to our side, she's just being less of a full throated MAGAt
Interesting how I haven’t seen a single person who tried to whitewash MTG’s violent history and claim she’s “coming around to our side now” speak a single word about her latest anti-trans bill.

Jesus H Christ, students, you can make the bibliography yourself, it takes 5 minutes. Or you can ask AI and if it doesn't know, it will MAKE ISHT UP. And then you will have a bogus bibliography for articles I know you read and had all the info to cite because they are class required readings

Church leaders say it’s a targeted, political reprisal against Pope Leo and the Catholic Church.
