I read, cook, eat, drink, seek nature/city, listen to awesome music, all with the best woman ever. Deadhead. Jam bands. Jazz. Modern and postmodern literature. Minneapolis, Minnesota. 😎
Loved the first person narrator main character Janina. Intriguing setting, atmosphere, and story. Another great novel by Olga Tokarczuk.

Pretty dense, damp, muddy, and complex. Lots of rain as well. László Krasznahorkai’s Satantango.

Pine needles, moss, mushrooms, mist. A narrator that speaks directly to the reader addressing them as “we”. Writing, setting, and well developed characters all make for a creepy and entertaining October read. Solid.

Just finished the work of historical fiction by Benjamín Labatut. Loved the insight into some of the great minds of the early 20th century.

A circus comes to town hawking a display of a stuffed whale. Also in the company was a “prince” who stands 2 feet tall and sports 3 eyes. Several mistake the “prince” as prophetic. Hilarity and tragedy ensues.

"What does that bring about?" he asked.
"Long deserved peace," Iran said.

Mircea Cărtărescu’s Solenoid. Starts as a memoir, and morphs into a fantastical absurdist exploration of the man’s life in Bucharest. Stunning writing throughout. Read this. Worth it. Trust me.

New author for me. Loved the novel. Great usage of making the reader doubt reality again and again. Leaves you guessing as to what really is.

The Hemingway Library Collection read continues with The Old Man and the Sea. As a kid I picked this book to write a report due to the small size of it. As an old man, I deeply appreciate the book. Loved it.

The Hemingway revisit continues. A Farewell to Arms shows his fully developed minimalist tip of the iceberg style. A pleasure to reread as an old man.

Working through my Hemingway revisit as an old man. I do remember reading this as an assignment somewhere back there in my education past (~45 years ago). The lost generation on full display in an idyllic Basque region I dream about. Solid first novel!
