Distressing mental images affect around 3 in 4 people with psychosis.

They can feel vivid, emotional, and overwhelming, yet are rarely addressed in therapy.

The iMAPS-2 trial tested a therapy focused on these images and their link to negative beliefs.

Why should I use pre-prints?
Traditional scientific publishing is slow and is often pay-walled. That is, there is normally a long delay between submitting your manuscript for publication and that manuscript being published (an…

Hi all!👋 This year, my sabbatical will focus on learning more about the brain, esp. neural mechanisms behind social theory of mind & affect. This includes its breakdowns, e.g. psychosis, hallucinations and delusions related to ToM. I'll be posting what I learn along the way. Thanks for connecting! ☺️

On a personal note, it was a huge honour to be an invited speaker at #ICHR2025 and to fly the flag for interdisciplinary approaches to the phenomenology of voices. Such an inspiring group of people and a wonderful three days!
Day 3 of #ICHR2025 has started with a fantastic keynote from @literarti.bsky.social on the complexities of command hallucinations - a tour de force!

Day two of #ICHR2025 begins with the one and only Tanya Luhrmann speaking on “Culture and Voices”.

Voices are not merely a glitch or aberration, but tell us “something fundamental about our minds”, our cultures, and our ways of understanding thinking itself

Drawing on studies in Ghana, India, Thailand, Russia & China, & with evangelical Christians, tulpamancers & elite athletes, Luhrmann shows convincingly that practice, proclivity & porosity are key to understanding ‘non-clinical’ voice-hearing & to asking new Q’s about psychosis #ICHR2025
