This is not a drill, a mummified sabretooth cat has been published from the #Pleistocene permafrost of Russia. It's a Homotherium cub! The team (Lopatin et al.) reckon it's Homotherium latidens. It's too young to have enlarged upper canines. Paper is OA ... www.nature.com/articles/s41... cont...

Happy #hyena Friday (AKA #FisiFriday)! 🍪

Did you know that hyenas live in social groups called clans and that they can vary wildly in size depending on the local ecology of where they are -- from less than 10 to over 100?! 🤯

#Hyena pic of the day to brighten up your Thursday. 🍪✨

I love this photo because:

1. Cubs. Obviously.
2. You can really see the transition from cub fluff to spots on the hyena in the back.

Any other spotted fans out there?

Fujianvenator.

This was to have been a sketch, but it got away from me, which was when I should have stopped. It spiralled into series of attempts to salvage the previous misstep. A stupid time sink for an indifferent result. 😐
