I wrote this NASA page about wildfires and climate change, and I'm so excited it's finally live. It's a tireless effort to get big pages published at NASA - as it should be!

How long will it remain up? Who knows. Check it out while you still can. 🧪 #climatesky

We need commercials for major academic papers the way they do movies, with the quotes and music and all.

Estimating future heat-related and cold-related mortality under climate change, demographic and adaptation scenarios in 854 European cities - Nature Medicine
Modeled analyses of 854 European cities show that net temperature-related mortality will increase because of an increase in heat-related mortality exceeding future reductions in cold-related mortality...

Global warming has accelerated, a lot!

The first 19 days of 2025 were on average +1.74°C above pre-industrial.

That's about 0.1°C warmer than the same period last year. Then we had an El Niño, now a La Niña.

What a great review 🧵! My book was useful 🥰

(It's hard to feel like one's efforts matter, on a day like today, so I'm extra grateful for this.)
Thanks to @doctorvive.bsky.social for her book "The Language of Climate Politics" which dismantles fossil-fuel talking points. I was on a local cable program called "The Liberal View" which alternates every couple of months with "The Conservative View."

Every wildfire starts with an ignition – downed powerlines, lightning, arson – and we can do a lot to reduce these.

But in California the number of fires has dropped while the area burned has doubled. What has changed is conditions, not ignitions:

Evolution of intelligent life requires a planet that’s continuously habitable for 3 or 4 billion years. The fact that such a planet exists is a miracle.

This line from Don't Look Up perfectly encapsulates what is special about Earth and why we should fight for it.
