We are Head and Deputy at Lingfield Primary School, Surrey, with a passion for school improvement. We have worked together for over 13 years and care deeply about authentic school culture; doing less better and eating cake!
We are feeling over the moon after receiving this acknowledgement from Bridget Phillipson.
What a credit to our team here at Lingfield and their on-going hard work. 🥳
Well done to you too @strickomaster.bsky.social and everyone at Duston School. Happy Friday everyone! 🎉

The Bread and Butter of our Maths Curriculum

A brilliant twilight session tonight led by our KS1 and KS2 maths leaders, Hayley and Karina. Their deep knowledge of our school, our maths curriculum, @whiterosemaths and how children learn underpinned everything they shared with staff.

Finally, despite my interest being primarily in primary, I rarely do niche content from there. However, this is a great post from the @theeducakers.bsky.social on making the most out of "early work" or "morning work" - a staple of most UK primaries. Enjoy!

How do you use the first 20 minutes of the day?

In our school, Early Work is purposeful: catch-up, retrieval, review, pre-teaching & checking in with children.

Baroness Estelle Morris kicked off the Surrey Education Partnership today. A really engaging speaker outlining some of the history of the education system and promoting the importance of school partnerships.

Tonight’s staff meeting was brilliantly led by Alex and
Elliot who shared key takeaways from their Retrieval and Feedback training with @katejonesteach.bsky.social
last term.

We loved talking to you and we're really excited about what we can hopefully do together!
When you talk with colleagues doing terrific work, it's so energising.

Loved my conversation this afternoon with the brilliant Cass, Anna and Charlotte Bunyan on the power of reading @theeducakers.bsky.social

Right I've written a blog. At least I think I have as this may not work:

It's pretty dull.
Relationships with parents
Establishing good relationships with parents is essential for many reasons, and children benefit more when there is a strong relationship and good communication between the two. Working with parent…

Whilst Cass and I love education, we also love cake, hence - The Educakers.
It's Wednesday which means there's a staff meeting after school, and most importantly, 🍰Cake Club 🍰.

Absolutely love this book. Read it a few years ago for our Year 6 book club and couldn’t put it down. Bought it for my friend’s son for Christmas this year too.
It will be one of our Just Read texts too @marymyatt.bsky.social
I'm starting Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen with my class later this week. It's a fantastic read-aloud, reminiscent of The Day of the Triffids. Takes a few weeks to read but the pupils always get very emotionally involved.

What's your first class book this year?

I’ve had such a lovely time in the run up to Christmas reading some of these stories every night with my daughter. There are some classics in there and some lovely new ones.
The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland has been a real favourite.

Feeling incredibly grateful for our supportive governors who truly have our backs and challenge us when it matters. 🎄
This morning they treated our staff to a beautiful Christmas spread to say thank you.

I know everyone is tired and it’s the end of a long term, but I love this time of year 🎄

I started my morning watching our Pre-School class perform Christmas songs for their adults on the stage in our gym – and honestly, it’s my favourite performance of the whole school year.

A really useful read & something we've been grappling with recently as the number of children with SEND increases in our school.
We want to be able to accurately reflect & celebrate the achievements & progress of all of our children &, as @jpembroke.bsky.social says, labelled bands don't do this.

A little bit of Christmas cheer for our staff room as we head into the craziness that is the end of Autumn Term.
Sometimes it’s scrabble, sometimes a jigsaw puzzle and there’s rarely not food on the table.
It’s the little things that bring the extra glimmers of joy when the job is hard and busy.

Why I Can’t Teach Without a Visualiser... this week I’m talking all things visualisers — the perfect partner to my previous mini whiteboards post.

Like I said a fortnight ago, I genuinely couldn’t teach without either.

And the love letter for mini whiteboards continues. A thread....
As described in the blog, we still needed to iron out our consistent routines for how to use and show mini-whiteboards in the classroom and this week, as a staff, we agreed that.
Thank you to @adamboxereducation.bsky.social
and @laurastam for the final kick of inspiration yesterday morning to get this blog about mini-whiteboards finally out of my head and into the world.
