This scene in Would You Marry Me takes men's feminist solidarity back 10-20 years. Why is a random guy pushing aside a doctor MID CPR and telling her to cover up instead of publicly shaming the pervert filming her?

No beating him up in secret later does nothing.

Making people believe that their one vote is the only power they have is the biggest political scam. Your power is in dissent, agitation, vocal questioning, vigilance against corruption. There is no passive participation in a democracy.
If you’re in a party that consistently relies on high voter turnout to win, ensuring people come to the polls becomes part of your job. Otherwise, you did not do your job, and no amount of whining about and blaming others will get your job done 🤷🏻‍♂️
I cannot believe there are still people in my mentions arguing that boycotting an election because the candidates aren’t addressing your issue is a way to get them to pay attention.

My friend @anisa.bsky.social wrote this excellent piece on the presence of serial killers in romantic K-dramas for MENT magazine a while back, and then we recorded a pod talking more about it:

I'll link the article in the post below. Here's our podcast:

Would you marry me, so far, has been such a nice revisit to 2017s romcom kdrama era.

Minus the unnecessary stress. Our male lead is a grumpy teddy bear with sense and sensitivity. Our female lead is mildly bumbling but not a fool. Every time she stands up for herself she leaves a mile long burn.

A commenter asked if a sweet male lead's stalking counts as stalking, and so I did some legal research.
Turns out that while different rules apply for fiction and reality, the logic underpinning both is the same.

Is this stalking or love? (Replying to a comment)

An additional question I have is why all Jinns get their own names except Song Hye-kyo, who is only referred to as Jiniya ('female Jinn' acc to the drama). No name. Like why?

Anyway, here's a video on a show that confused me frequently.

Genie, Make a Wish!

(A first impressions thread)

4 minutes in. Holy info dump. Even in the lovely voice of Kim Woobin that was a lot.

Did I really need to know my hero's entire motivation before the story even starts?

Good friends on the internet have been recommending a k-drama to me for the last month. And it does seem like the perfect thing. Except for the ML being played by a dude who SA'd his friend (got acquitted then lost the defamation case ag the woman cause judge ruled she didn't lie).

I don't want to+

I told you I would keep you updated about the #BurningSun creeps so you can make conscious decisions about who and what to support:

One of the perpetrators in the Burning Sun incident and former YG Ent. employee, #HeoHyun, has been appointed as the CBO of Muse M, in charge of the China branch.

So ymmv but I don't care at all about cheating scandals unless there's some kind of abusive behavior involved. This is one of those big cultural disconnects for me, I'll never get over how cheating can nuke a person's career in Asia. #jdrama
#SakaguchiKentaro who scheduled to appear at press conference of movie #BanjoNoHimawari at Busan International Film Festival on September 18th has been cancelled due to his recent scandal.

See this is what takes me from liking a drama to suddenly loving it. 'When Destiny Brings the Demon' was chugging along just fine being cute and funny and dealing with immortal cannibalism... ☠️👀

What do you mean it's not high brow? 😄 It's funny as heck and follows logic in its plot mechanisms.

Yes people be flying everywhere but at least their motives are consistent and you're not trying to strangle characters through screen out of frustration!

I call that high art.

There's a 2001 Jang Hyuk movie called Volcano High that I found on Internet Archive & omg what a crack watch. It's like a live action manga with lots of wire work & very funny. Shin Min Ah is the FL & Gong Hyo Jin is in it too. Download the ISO file If you want to watch because it has subs #kdrama

I'm so late to this party, but the Apothecary Diaries is the best thing on my watchlist right now. You've got an FMC who's part chemist, part doctor, and all poison enthusiast trying to survive palace intrigues without getting beheaded. Maomao is my standard for historical heroines now.

Hearing about performers taking their lives has become white noise for us #kdrama fans.

Each time, we say, it's a situation unique to the person. It's not an industry wide problem all of us need to worry about.

Anywho. This was a sad but lovely read:

Watch Fireworks Of My Heart they said. It's a cute Yang Yang romance they said. So why am I depressed 10 episodes in over career ending injuries and the thanklessness of rescue work? 🙈

Don't mind me. I love #cdramas like this. But I'm ready for that com in the romcom now.

Watching My Dearest Nemesis and love Moon Ga-young as the brave, competent employee who needs the job but won't take power trips from her bosses.

Choi Hyun-wook though is a mix bag. His younger man, forced to hide a love of bad fashion + rock music, can't quite pull the fake stoic chaebol off 🧵1

What makes a female lead annoying to kdrama audiences? A woman being too loud, too aggressive, too independent?

But I've found people loving a lot of female leads who are all of that.

Ji Kang-hee seemed to hit a specific nerve though.

24 years ago, Meteor Garden started a global phenomenon of massively successful Hana Yori Dango adaptations without which we literally would not be here. *points to handle*

And that iconic show made the equally iconic Barbie Hsu beloved to millions around the world. RIP to a legend 💔

So I finally watched both Squid Games cause I wanted to understand the context of a scene in S2.

And director Hwang Dong-hyuk wasn't lying, was he?

He really did do season 2 for the monies (and rightfully so).

But that left us with such a sad imitation of S1. 🙈

Okay, Trauma Code EP 1 was an absolute banger but I'm traumatized by Netflix dramas with great first episodes that go to shit. 🤞 that it ends well @thedramanotes.bsky.social this is another reason for bad endings in dramas, investing all the $$ in EP 1 and not bothering with a coherent script.
