After days full of bad weather, yesterday our aircrew was able to start monitoring the situation in the Mediterranean again. Once again, we documented an illegal interception by Libyan militias. These unlawful practices do not go unnoticed.

🔴Breaking: Our crew was able to rescue over 80 more people from an unseaworthy boat in distress today. Several people were suffering from burns caused by a mixture of fuel and salt water, seasickness, hypothermia and dehydration. 1/2

🔴Breaking: Yesterday afternoon, our #Humanity1 crew brought the more than 70 survivors to the assigned place of safety, #Lampedusa, where they were transferred to an Italian Coast Guard Vessel close to the coast. We are now already on our way back to the area of operation. 1/4

What actually happens during the long winter nights when we're on rotation? Even if we don't know of any specific search and rescue case, our crew is on duty the entire time. Even at night. Working in shifts, they share the night watch and lookout duties.

Last Saturday morning, our crew found a fiberglass boat in distress with 47 people on board. @alarmphone.bsky.social had previously reported the boat. When our crew arrived, the boat was already taking on water, and the people had no life jackets.

Nach langem Warten im schlechten Wetter durfte Aurora endlich in Lampedusa anlegen. Alle Überlebenden – nach eigenen Angaben bereits 2 Tage auf See – sind sicher an Land. Die ständige Verzögerung von Schutz & Versorgung ist inakzeptabel. Jeder hat das Recht auf Bewegungsfreiheit!

🧵 1.The Balkan route is a major land crossing into the #EU. Since 2014, at least 250 people have died there, according to the IOM's Missing Migrants Project. Many more disappear without a trace, with the #RedCross estimating that nearly 90% of missing people on these routes are never found.

Another day of fighting EU‘s border regime: Our Aurora assisted in the rescue of 45 persons, including 9 minors. Our crew remained on scene to distribute life jackets & water until the Italian coast guard agreed to intervene and take the people onboard. Strength to all survivors!
