I LOVE this interview!
This is such a powerful conversation
"I was wondering why I was put in prison for working in an African language when I had not been put in prison for working in English. So really, in prison I started thinking more seriously about the relation between language and power."

Just depressing.
While analyzing our 2025 submission data, I noticed that the US is now the primary producer of slop submissions (which includes fully and partially-generated/assisted/whatever). Congrats. You're #1. Happy? You should be embarrassed. Please stop.

(In 2023 and 2024, the US wasn't in the top three.)

Reposting myself, in case you missed it.
If I can make something that helps someone else create the space I have when I read a book or whatever I'm doing to rest, then I have to do that. I can't not do that, especially when what I do feels pointless.

Outstanding letter!!! Yes, to human beings and the human children we are responsible for raising.
This summer, I took myself to the beach for two days & wrote a letter to my fellow educators about “AI.”

My mom asked to read it; I told her, “Not yet. Let me get another draft done.”

Welp.

I should have let her read the first draft because she’s not here to read this one.

2026 is a good time to start a new podcast and @wilwheaton.net It's Storytime is a great one!
I've been reading my editor's selections for upcoming episodes of It's Storytime. I expected them to be great (they are) but what I didn't expect was how *different* they would all be.

Y'all, if these authors say yes, we're gonna bring you such a wonderful variety of speculative fiction in 2026!
