I'm mostly here to talk about music- 60s, 70s, 80s, and a little bit of 90s. All genres are welcome (Although I'm mostly a hip-hop, classic rock, R&B, and pop music guy).

I was going through my albums and came across this Roberta Flack cover of Yoko Ono's Goodbye Sadness. Produced by Ralph MacDonald, it also features Steve Gadd and Marcus Miller.

@danyelsmith.bsky.social Have you heard this before?

There is a post going around for the top five opening tracks off an album. I'm going to make a full list, but it is crazy that I haven't seen Straight Outta Compton yet. Part of it is a strong rock bias in the lists, but still.

I just switched from a tube amp to a solid state. If anyone else has made the switch how long did it take you to get used to the new sound?

When I tell you that Joni Mitchell was absolutely writing her ass off on Blue:

Acid, booze, and ass
Needles, guns, and grass
Lots of laughs lots of laughs
Everybody's saying that hell's the hippest way to go
Well I don't think so
But I'm gonna take a look around it though
Blue I love you

Acoustic by Everything But The Girl is such a beautiful sounding album. They really need to put out a vinyl reissue.

The original person is not alone. I also have not seen Love Actually or Friends.
Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

It is a damn shame that we don’t have better sounding live recordings from Prince.

I’m sure I will buy the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway remaster, but I stand on the idea that it should have been a single album.

If you are an immigrant, you learn the asymmetrical balance of power when it comes to mistakes.
You make a mistake - you pay for it. The bureaucracy makes mistakes - you might pay for that too.
This is getting worse. More administrative mistakes and zero tolerance for immigrant errors.
I just received this statement from ICE re: Barbara Mariana Gomes Marques May in which they can't even be bothered to get her age right (she's 38.) She never received the notice to appear in 2019, and was at the final step of her green card process with her US citizen husband when she was taken.

This has been rattling in my head all day:

We are stardust, we are golden
We are billion-year-old carbon
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

U2’s performance at Live Aid was transformational. They start off spaced closely together. Almost as if the stage is too big for them. And slowly you see them spread out to meet the moment. It is the start of their path towards becoming the biggest band in the world.

The annoying thing about the DC police takeover conversation: It is ok to ignore the data because some people in the community don't feel safe. But, when others raise concerns about having an increased law enforcement & military presence, they are told the data says they have nothing to worry about.

We stopped expanding the House in the 1920s, decided the Supreme Court should freeze in the 1930s, added the last states in the 1950s, amended the Constitution only once in the last fifty years.

The USA and its government continued to grow, but almost all that growth came in the executive branch.
i really think the only reason we haven't created new states — which was a common political tactic in the 19th century, see nevada and the dakotas — is that 50 is a round number

I predict that The Clipse will have a Bonnie Raitt kinda year at the Grammy’s. Long time vets, respected by their peers but chronically overlooked finally break through.
