Solo game dev is amazing: full creative control, no compromises, you get to build exactly what you want. But it also sucks—no external feedback loop, no one to check your decisions, and the echo chamber gets loud. Pure freedom, pure isolation.

Been thinking a lot about how solo game dev is equal parts exhaustion and quiet triumph. No one warns you how long it really takes. Or how good it feels when you push through anyway.

Working on a sim game is great because you start with “let's model a simple ecosystem” and end up three weeks deep in a spreadsheet arguing with yourself about how fast fictional grass should grow.

Turns out “Game Dev” mostly means drawing plants in Procreate, yelling at a Kanban board, and using Final Cut like it’s an animatic tool. Unity is just where everything goes to break.

Game dev is just repeatedly rebuilding the universe because one pixel looked wrong. I’ve forgotten what fun is, but at least my procedural trees die of loneliness realistically now.

Game dev is slow bc it’s basically like building a house while the blueprints are still being sketched, the foundation keeps asking for redesigns, and the plumbing insists it’s a dragon now.

And one guy added “just a little water ripple” and now the engine is on fire.

Just had a genius idea for a new game mechanic. Dropped everything to prototype it. Now I have three half-finished systems, zero gameplay, and a folder named “Final_Final_Prototype_v6” that crashes on load. Game dev’s going great.

Game dev is humbling. Wrecked myself trying to get ingredient dragging to work. Spent days messing with colliders, physics layers, raycasts. Deleted everything. Started over. Now it works perfectly because I did… almost none of that.
