I once saw Staithes (which was locally often pronounced Steers) wonderfully described as a "jumble of whitewashed, pantile-roofed cottages clinging to the hillside, threaded through with narrow ginnels leading to the pretty harbour." and with the the Cod & Lobster, practically

It was once home to a young Captain Cook, who worked there as a shop assistant. The village has a strong artistic heritage and is home to the renowned Staithes Gallery, showcasing local art. The pub visible by the water is the "Cod and Lobster," a traditional pub that has been rebuilt multiple times after being damaged by the sea.

A memo was released by ICE instructing agents to violate the U.S. Constitution. ICE told officers and agents that they can forcibly enter homes without warrants signed by judges. The memo was from ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons, was shared with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) by two whistleblowers.
