On Widowhood and Erika Kirk: Grief Is Not for Monetizing
I am a young widow. Or I was a widow? I'm never sure how long to carry that title. And I want to be clear about how I approach conversations about grief before I say anything else. I don't criticize the appearance or behavior of other women when I disagree with them philosophically. I don't compare pain or rank trauma. Grief is not a contest, and there is no objective way to measure how another person carries loss. What I am interested in is how grief is portrayed, and how those portrayals quietly shape our expectations of what grief should look like. From here, I want to try to explain without comparison my experience with widowhood to what is often portrayed on television and in popular culture. I've been watching and listening to Erika Kirk, and her visibility has prompted reflection for me. not because our experiences are interchangeable, but because her story fits cleanly into a version of grief that audiences consume. While we are both widows, I don't feel anysense of sisterhood or shared recognition there. I don't feel that quiet, unspoken understanding where you want to reach out, hug someone, or sit beside them without explanation. I've felt that connection with other widows I've met through my work, and even with women I've encountered unexpectedly in waiting rooms, in store aisles, in brief conversations where no backstory was required. With Erika Kirk, I don't feel that resonance. We share a label, but I don't experience a shared interior reality. The version of grief we are most often shown has edges. A timeline. A recognizable arc. There is a moment of devastation, followed by symbolic grief, followed by resilience that arrives on cue. It is designed to be witnessed, processed, and eventually resolved. Widowhood, in real life, is not a single season or a defining trait. It is not cinematic. It is administrative, disorienting, humiliating, lonely, and deeply private. It lives in the body as much as the heart. It shows up in grocery stores, in silence, in paperwork, in moments when no one is watching. It does not resolve itself for narrative satisfaction. Or for fame. I am not interested in ranking pain or measuring trauma. I don't believe suffering is a competition. But I do believe there is harm in flattening grief into something recognizable and palatable, especially when those portrayals become reference points people unconsciously use to judge what "real" grief should look like. Widowhood teaches you how little of grief is meant to be witnessed at all and how misleading public narratives can be when they're mistaken for lived experience. My experience of widowhood has not been obvious or elusive on demand. It has been both at the same time. And it has required a kind of endurance that does not translate well to screens or soundbites. Widowhood has taught me that much of what matters most is carried quietly. And that no portrayal, curated or not, can stand in for the reality of it.

The SAVE Act is such a diabolical attack on our collective psyche: we no longer attest to our citizenship, we beg the government to believe we are citizens.

Male-centered Women Are Dangerous. We all know the fate of Trump’s Fall Girls.
Male-centered women don't dismantle patriarchy. They make it more efficient. They think they're climbing. They're actually being positioned. Pam Bondi. Megyn Kelly. Caroline Leavitt. Kristi Noem. Different roles. Same function: front-facing armor for male power. They call it leadership. They call it access. They call it influence. But watch how quickly that access becomes a shield. Watch how fast "trusted" turns ininto expendable. Trump and his useful idiots don't elevate women. They deploy them. As cover. As proof. As buffers. As future fall girls. And look at what's demanded of them to stay useful: Faces remade. Bodies disciplined. Aging erased. Humanity negotiated away. Not because power requires it, but because misogyny does. Just like the girls in the Epstein files. That's the throughline. A system that consumes women, repackages them, and discards them whether they're being sold as victims or sold as leaders. They aren't innocent. They're complicit. But they're also proof of how little these men actually think of women: Useful. Replaceable. And always one scandal away from being pushed off the edge. That's not liberation. That's weaponization. Trump abuses all women.
