It is a great loss for all of us that you are gone Steven.
After seven years at the Center for the Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, two as Andrew W. Mellon Professor and five as Dean, I will retire from the National Gallery of Art on July 18.

I am proud of what we have accomplished since 2020. (1/3)

The brilliant Steven Nelson and his remarkable community of NGA staff and speakers at our cohosted conference “Color Lines across the United States and Mexico”. So sad to see he is no longer The Center Dean. Huge loss for all of us

Huge loss at The Center/ National Gallery of Art with early retirement of Steven Nelson as Dean. We so badly need his leadership in the art and art history worlds. mailchi.mp/nga/center-n.... I am so disappointed the NGA would let this happen.

USAID didn’t fail. It fed 127,000 kids—then was erased mid-crisis. No speech. No tribute. Just silence. They didn’t end a program. They liquidated a covenant. The last American promise not built on conquest—but care.

Hard to believe this isn’t already the law.
Fox News host Will Cain: "The 'No Secret Police Act' would ban local, state, and federal law enforcement from covering their faces when interacting with the public. Officers would also have to wear identifying information on them, like name tags. Hard to believe this is real!"

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife.

While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.

This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

1/ A case VERY similar to #AbregoGarcia should get more attention

- Trump admin sent 'Cristian' to El Salvador's prison in violation of court-enforced agreement

- DOJ gave no evidence to judge of TdA public safety threat

- Judge (a Trump appointee) has ordered USG to facilitate Cristian's release

As we’ve said before now confirmed. FOIA requests reveal that DOGE employees are pulling in six-figure salaries, with many holding the title of “Expert,” a specific Office of Personnel Management (OPM) designation that pays around $190,000 a year.

My thoughts from watching right wing media work over the last decade… changing language around diversity, equity, and inclusion is a trap. You end up confirming their allegations that your commitments to DEI were wrong, and you’ll later be accused of covering up programs that you know to be wrong.

We’re not sure what separates the Trump admin from the “terrorists” it claims to be fighting. You watch whats happening and can’t even process it—what the hell is going on is all we can think. Our Constitution grants everyone within this country the same legal protections, regardless of citizenship.

Can we stop calling these atrocities "deportations." These people sold to El Salvadorian prisons were not deported. Deportation is a process that did not take place. They were rounded up and removed with no process. They were kidnapped, not deported.
